Eurodragster Finals report said:
It's not beyond the realms of possibility that this week's race might be our last chance to see Top Fuel Dragsters running over the quarter mile in Europe.
Being as Tog has his nose closer to the ground than he'll publicly admit, is this the end of the 1320 (for the premier class) that we all know and love?

Was it always going to be just a matter of time?

Sad isn't it?

A bit like if they were going to change from pints to half litres down the pub.

You know it would not make much difference but ... it ain't natural!!

Because the NHRA did. I think it's 100% the wrong decision, but I can't say I'll be surprised if it does happen.

What was the reason for the NHRA changing it though?

Its quite understandable they only run 1000ft. They are running faster than us to 1000 than we do to 1/4mile. I still like going to/watching US drag racing. The Vegas entrylist is massive which kind of substitutes it in a way.

On a previous thread, this debate was discussed at length and I must admit I have been quite opposed to the 1000ft era and was disappointed when Tierp adopted it this year. To me that was a clear signal Europe was going to follow USA. I don't know what will happen until I hear from those in charge but my opinion has changed somewhat...

I went to an NHRA event this year and the 1000ft for nitro classes didn't affect my enjoyment at all, which was a pleasant surprise and a relief ! I'm still a quarter mile advocate but if it is 1000ft then there's really not too much to worry about I think. Sure there is a difference, but for me it wasn't one that spoilt the racing and spectacle at all.

I had the same negative feeling about it 3 years ago when I flew over to US for my first 1000ft race too see. Instead I was totally blown away buy how consistent the times/ets were.325+mph is mind boggling at a 1000ft. I still like 1/4mile aswell.

you do realise that over here in europe we are going as fast as the americans were 10 years ago ! so to go to 1000 ft is pathetic ! At the end of the day its down to money and i certainly wont bother with the circus act of top fuel anymore.... the class to watch will be top alky dragster .

I dont prefer 1000ft but having 45+ topfuel cars does it for me.327mph@1000ft is good. we have done 320mph but need 320ft more of track. What id like is more of the topfuel cars running 4.50s over here and that would get me more interested.

45+ in Top Fuel, do you mean 45 AA fuel cars including Funny Car ? Not even the US Nationals attracts that many in Top Fuel Dragster.

I think for the sake of consistency and to help pro racers through these hard economic times, 1000' is necessary. You can't have a series that is easy to understand for newcomers when different meetings are at different distances. Likewise, we look even slower than the US runners than we are when the layperson compares our 1320 times against their 1000' times. But primarily, I think it needs to be that way for cost. AND, we are totally constrained to what parts are available from the US in the nitro ranks, and those parts are gradually being engineered for the 1000' distance and not the full 1320'.

If there is more load on the engines before half track, what is it that does the damage in the last 320ft, is it heat?

It's not really damage where the cost lies, it's fuel and rubber used. Nitro is not cheap stuff!
