Just about to book my tickets for next year's NHRA SummitRacing Nationals in Vegas. I want to go for reserved seating in the main (western) stands, but not sure which area to go for.

Anyone watched a race there and can offer advice? From the plan view, it seems the far end of the stands is at about half-track, but the offset from the strip itself is greater at this end than it is at the start-line end. I always just tend to wander around when I go to the Pod, so don't have to make this kind of decision beforehand!

Any advice appreciated...

Hi

I went a few years ago and had reserved seating in that stand just forward of the tree and it offered a superb view. Moreover, I was able to sit in any part of that main stand as the show was not sold out and therefore there was always other spaces available to sit. So my main spot was my reserved seat but sometimes I would sit at the top and sometimes mid track. Unless anything has changed, you shouldn't be restricted purely to your purchased seat, especially on qualifying days.

In addition one had free access to roam on the opposite side and pits as well of course.

Finally, its a great venue: easy in /out, about 15 m drive from Vegas and a stunning setting.

Hope this is helpful !

Thanks for the tip. In that case I won't get too concerned about which seating section to opt for when booking tickets. I will be there for both Saturday qualifying and Sunday eliminations, so should get a chance to view the racing from all angles over the course of the weekend!

I agree it's a great facility and setting - I did the Frank Hawley Super Comp school there last year - and I'm looking forward to going back. Too bad this race isn't on the GSA Pro Mod tour in 2012 though - gutted about that, but too late to change my travel arrangements now...

I went to Vegas in April 2005 and not knowing the score about how busy it would be, booked their own version of Top Eliminator Club tickets (Nitro Club or something like that). These cost around $300 each for all 4 days. These tickets gave us reserved seats (in the Western grandstand - I chose the location - track going R to L), which in the Nitro Club area was virtually empty the whole time I was there - I could have sat anywhere.

You need to be aware of the sun in Vegas, as it’s seriously fierce for us Brits. The stand we were in was the only covered grandstand in the facility which was a Godsend (it was 90 degrees). This was above the main western grandstand and is the only time I’ve taken a lift to a seat in a sporting venue anywhere (about 5 storeys up) and offered not only a fantastic view of the strip but also gave the real sensual impression of being there, as the shock waves from Nitro cars ricocheted off the roof.

It was only when I got there that I realised that that I could have got the tickets on a day rate basis, at around $70 (each) for Saturday and $90 for Sunday but these didn’t offer any of the “extras" that I got with the Nitro Club tickets (breakfast of Sat & Sun, Lunch on all days with driver/team talks).

My advice is to call the track and talk to the ticket office about what you want. They were really helpful.

If ever go back I'll simply try and get the covered seats on the day, in the Nitro Club area and foresake the "extras"

I’d go back tomorrow, if I could afford to....

Well, I booked the tickets last night. Think I paid about $130 for reserved seating on the two days. Took a look at the Club Nitro package but it was $325 and I couldn't justify the extra cost.

Good point about the strength of the sun though - I once got pretty bad sunburn spending a day watching the drag racing at the Baytown strip near Houston, and that was in January! Mental note: pack sunblock and a big hat.

(Just checked your profile, Bowler, and I see we have similar taste in cars. Really miss my C5 and may be shopping for a C6 Grand Sport when I'm out in Vegas...)

Spent the Friday of Big O Tyres NHRA meet in Vegas last month in block F row 23 seat 20
I can recomend it!
Grat view, handy for nitro alley and a front seat when the F16's take off from Nellis afb.
Hot in the sun but when the shade comes over and when evening sets in remember you're in the desert so take a hoodie.
Whilst we were there (All day Friday) general admision seating was never full however friends who attended all 3 days tell me that over the weekend the place was jamed.

I go every year, if you want 60' seating you will want Sections C-D! If you want 330' seating you will want Secs. G-H seating! Any other questions email me at Kingnitro@hotmail.com

Just so you know, Vegas 2 in Oct. Is the Big race. Vegas 1 in April has far fewer cars! Just so you will know.

The only issue we had being in the main stand near the start line was the sun in your eyes for long periods,
would have been better to sit out of this as it was pretty fearsome
after a number of hrs, that was late Oct still.

Yeh still have about 18-20 TF cars which I still enjoyed. I remember it being bloody hot. Racetrack was 124 degrees.

If you sit on the Pit side, that won't be a problem! On the Spectator side yes....

It was jammed. And easy to get out of to.
