NHRA turbo rule changes
Discussion
In the continuing effort to maintain parity in the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by ProCare Rx, the NHRA Technical Department is increasing the minimum weight for turbocharged entries from 2,650 pounds to 2,700 pounds. The minimum weight for nitrous assisted entries will remain at 2,425 pounds while the minimum weight for supercharged entries will remain at 2,650 pounds. Turbocharged entries will also have a reduction in maximum allowable engine size from 540 cubic inches to 526 cubic inches. Additionally, in an effort to maintain parity and reduce development costs of turbocharged entries, a spec 88 mm turbocharger will be mandated. This turbocharger will be manufactured only by Precision Turbo & Engine. The turbine housing part number will be 10301-XXX and the compressor wheel will be A24288C. Only this approved turbocharger and it components will be permitted. Any modification to the spec turbocharger is prohibited. These rule changes will go into effect January 1, 2012. Additional parity adjustments will be made as necessary.
not the giant slap everyone expected, in fact i dont think it changes much at all....so if we do addopt it at some time it wont be the end of the world

450 ci and 78 mm turbos.....

its his personal preference
i actuly dont like the look or sound of them either but the fact remains they have more power than the blower cars and power wins drag races not looks or sounds although what the point of that post was in this thread i have no idea,
as i started this to discuss turbo rule changes...??
there is actuly another turbo thread running where the post may have been more at home.....

and the only two turbo pro mod cars so far in europe that have started to show promise were both in their First year of development one ended up holding the european pro mod speed record and one the fastest ever british pro mod...
WIth a lot more turbo pro mods in europe next year im sure we will see them start to threated within the next two years
and in the US if they had started the season as strongly as they finished they probably would have, the turbo cars have so much more horsepower and torque that its not so easy to control but when its figured out as it is starting to be....wait and see
any more experts wanna have a dig???

Ive personally been out there and must say the turbo cars didnt really do it for me. It was ok last year when it was just personett and the rest blown but now theres more hairdryers.
I agree, the Performance is impressive but cars that sound like Vaccuum Cleaners don't get my Rocks off!The Enthusiast said:
Arent we talking about the latest rules changes for the NHRA in America? It was kinda appropriate.
There was nothing appropriate about your comments,it was a thread about rule changes not your presonal likes and dislikes,
Just as there was nothing appropriate about your 1000 ft comment in the bernstine sale,

yes
the spec i can sort of understand, cause there is severe rules regarding superchargers and none exept an opening size for turbos,
but 1 manufacturer isnt good for the sport,
I think Indy car racing has a spec turbo ?? is that one manufacturer? specing a compressor wheel and housing size isnt much different to specing rotor twist and upening size on a roots supercharger,
but much harder to police i expect thats why its been done.

Ok but why are you talking about US stuff when you clearly a biased person?it was a thread about rule changes not your presonal likes and dislikes,

Yeah I can imagine that point will be made by the NHRA to defend there decision, but I would argue that they still have to police the "and you're not allowed to modify it" portion of the rules. And this then brings you back to having to dismantle the units and would be just as hard as it would be to police the legality of a Garrett, Borg-Warner, Hitachi built to spec unit.
As a petrol head child I fell in love with drag racing, but as an adult engineer I find myself entirely disinterested in it because the NHRA seem to be held bent on keeping the sport dumbed down.
