There has been talk of a revival of fuel funnies for several years but maybe this time it will happen. With Showtime, the 2 Shockwave cars, and Shelly Pearson and presumably Lief as he has nobody to race coming over we only need a couple of the rumoured cars to appear and there could be a proper elimination for the first time in years. As it's not FIA and they are only likely to run at the Pod and Hockenhiem they can run the full quarter which would be even better.

Even a few with "not so quick" cars would be welcome, its been a long time since there was much to see from this class* .... and lets be right, the mega-powerful cars have problems many times just getting down the track

You reading this Nobby?....

  • with all due and maximum respect to the Shockwave team of course

Whilst it is still run over the 1/4 I think there will be improved interest in Funny Cars.

not sure the 1/4mile thing is a major factor but a good entry would bolster interest a lot i think, though it could be a long time before more than 4 turn up to race

Not sure if it's just the way I'm reading it but that does sound like a kick, Showtime, Shockwave and Leif have put on a great show and held the class up for however many years. Side by side mid to low 5s, Spuff running 5.0/5.1@300+ Plenty to see IMO.

Disagree with 'slower' cars idea as well. There's alky funny cars running down into 5.6s at FIA events and it would severly dilute the class (again IMO) nitro is not something you just play with for a bit of noise, for the clas to be taken seriously and grow with sponsor support the current level is where it needs to be.

Bring back the Cannonball. An 8 car field all running in the low 5s/high4s.

I think 1/4 mile is a huge interest factor now, reasons being:

We're still licking the guardrails for 'the magic number' in AAFC here - without compromise.
It would make the class the only one left capable of delivering side by side 4s @ 300+ over the time honored distance, which is the spectators nirvana! If that potential doesn't pack a track nothing will.

well mainly on the results/turnout over the last few years

when were there last over four AAFC running at a meeting?

dont get me wrong, id crawl on all fours over hot coals to see it, but given the economy and other forces it seems wishful thinking.........id love to be proven wrong

unless you know different sir?

a couple of nostalgia floppers making up the numbers, though obviously not in direct ccompetition with the AAFCs, would be a nice showcase for both classes. Top of the bill pulling potential these days.

The West Ten /Shelly Pearson one looks serious on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/groups/3028925... , so that would make at least 5 cars. The Houndog car looked ready a couple of years ago but although it has apeared at shows etc it has not run in anger as far as I am aware.

well even with 3 (and the Shockwave team look set to have two) at least they can run a round robin i suppose
