Matt Hagan's a lucky chap!

Apologies if it's a repost, but I just saw this on the BBC breakfast news a few minutes ago (paraphrased with 'I know we don't really do drag racing over here' or words to that effect...)
Figured it'd have to be something pretty remarkable to make the news over here, and it certainly was. Top marks for the reaction after getting out too - that's dedication

Looks like something straight out of Hollywood!

Nice one Stu. Body shredding explosions in Funny Car are not that rare. what made the news go with the story, I think, was Matt Hagan's fantastic reaction as he got out. Understandable; he's blown the body off his car three years running, at the same race meeting, in the same lane. No wonder he was annoyed. That and the fact that bodies don't come cheap at $30,000 odd. That kind of damage won't buff out.

What annoyed me is that once again it's a matter of "it only becomes newsworthy if it's a fire or a crash"!
Yes, ok, it was spectacular, but where was the mention of the even more spectacular 330mph 1000ft by The Sarge, or Massey's 332mph!!
Nope, as usual it's a case of "oooh there was a fire and the bloke got out and had a temper tantrum, let's run with that"!
Come on BBC, ITV etc.... If you're going to follow MY sport, then do us all a favour and FOLLOW IT PROPERLY!!!!

Chance would be a fine thing, they can barely be arsed to read out the F1 results and that's about the only motorsport which they feel deserves a mention. I don't think they've said a thing about bike racing in the news for years other than when a rider's lost his life. Motorsport seldom fits their agenda - the way they covered Hagan's incident was more like a trivial bit of humour (like the 'here's a snowboarding squirrel from canada' type filler they wheel out to wrap up the show with). Hilarious commentary.... THREE cars in a race? I counted 4?
Hagan furious because he hadn't won.... Maybe if they took a little more interest in the sport, they'd realise what rotten luck the DEFENDING CHAMP has had this season!
Typical of the Beeb... There are facts to be had, but let's not bother!! Oooooooooooh makes my blood boil!!!

I think the BBC have given a decent amount of coverage to Drag Racing over the last few years on TV and radio, and it has not all been accidents and explosions. You can't expect full coverage of what is a minority motor sport.I didn't mean that we should expect "full" coverage... (Can't remember when I saw Drag Racing being covered on the Beeb) but, if they do decide to cover something, at least they could get their facts right!!
In my humble (and very often wrong) opinion those 300mph runs over 1,000ft were way more spectacular! Plus the fact that The Sarge was the first to 330 over the Quarter, AND the first to 330 over the 1,000ft!

Certainly don't expect much if any Drag Racing coverage from their TV stuff, nor have I seen any at all (radio I've no idea, can't say I've listened to a radio in years). I was referring to motorsports in general getting precious little coverage in the 'sports' sections of their news & current affairs programming. Which is accurate IMO.
Remarkable coverage. Just been watching BBC News-24, the News Channel, or whatever it's called.
Just before 7.30pm, a phone interview with Matt Hagan himself, who I thought came over very well -- articulate, fluent, concise.
8.30, shorter clip of that interview plus on-screen interview with a Top Gear safety expert who appeared to know his subject and complimented not just the car's safety standards but also the Safety Safari's swift response.
All good, positive stuff.
