First time drag racing - PVS 2012
Discussion
For the last couple of years I've had John Sleath bolting bits onto my Vauxhall Monaro. It's street legal and runs an LSX427 twin turbo that's dyno'd at 1206hp. John's just finished putting ladder bars and drag radials on it, as it was lethal on the standard wheels and tyres. We took it to PVS on Sunday, hoping to run it down the strip in the RWYB and collect some data. I've never raced before, so it was supposed to be a chance to learn how to drive properly. Boost was lowered to 12.5psi (700hp+ at the wheels), as I've not driven anything quite as powerful before.
As luck would have it, one of the marshalls thought I was one of the show cars and asked me to follow RV3 to the start line. I figured that I really shouldn't be there, but (with John's support) managed to blag a place in the show, saving the £25 RWYB fee along the way. Needless to say, I got pasted by Roy Walker on both times we ran. I had a great time, regardless.
Times weren't too bad:
10.7 @ 140
10.6 @ 139
11.2 @ 138 (part of the RWYB when the track was rubbish)
10.2 @ 141
60-foot times were around 1.8
Reaction times were sh*t. The worse being 2.4 seconds when I wasn't looking at the lights (c*ck).
All I can say is John knows how to build a good car

I was disappointed to hear that Roy wasn't trying that hard...

Erm, at the odd's of stating the obvious. Your on the brakes as your going under the gantry. Keep your foot in the gas and off the brakes, till your well into the red painted barrier. Many of us have made the same mistake. Wont effect your ET much but, but will make a big difference to your Mph. Loving the car Btw.

Only obvious if you know what you're doing. Thanks for the advice Edited by snakehips on Tuesday 12th June 20:31

hehe, Street Eliminator is calling and its a down hill slope from there. Look forward to seeing it in the mix (if you do decide too)
I certainly do intend to race. Roy Walker suggested Pro ET. Think I'll have to try a few more events to figure out what's what. Mopar at the end of July looks good.Gassing Station | Drag Racing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
