Celebrating UK drag racing
Discussion
Only a couple of replies Lee.
To shed more light on it, Im getting frustrated with the lack of coverage for any racing outside of Santa Pod and Avon Park (still find it hard to call it its new name!) So I decided to do something I know how to do and build a website.
Im not a reporter and really don’t have the desire to become one but wanted to give everyone a platform to keep others informed and entertained.
As you know i bought a street 1998 Camaro and raced myself for the first time last year. I decided to race at York in American Superstock and Sportsman e.t. and thought it would easy to find out what I needed to do to get started online (where I seem to spend most of my life)
To my surprise it wasn’t at all easy to find out what to do online and took getting to know a couple of other racers to be able to ask questions and figure it as I went. Then in the process of racing all year (I loved it and plan to be back out next year once my youngest son, now 4 months old, has grown a little) I found it hard to find out what was happening at York - things like timing information appears sporadicaly, and getting championship points updates is like drawing teeth.
So back to UKDrag.net - I don’t know exactly what I want to do with it but over the last few days since putting it up I think Im starting to focus in on the following
· Mainly for news from tracks other than the main 2 (but not exclude them as they are a big part of the sport)
· User generated content - Im looking at a feature where users can upload there own articles and files
· New media agregator - feeds of relevant tweets and facebook posts so they are all in one place
· Track and Class reps - individuals who have a smartphone (lets face it that’s all that’s needed) who can upload round by round details from the tracks and get comments and possibly audio/video interviews with the racers
· Features about the racers themsleves - people like people - yes the cars are amazing but we need to get fans to know the racers so they will start to root for them and support them
Im sure there will be other things that will come up along the way but Im open to it evolving into a central resource to the demands of the users.
Im off to the Goodwood Festival of speed this weekend as I luckily managed to win some tickets courtesy of Chevrolet UK so wont be doing much with it this weekend.
Would value your opinion (and that of anyone else)
George

Not wishing to demean your efforts but we are served well by Eurodragster.com, so all that is needed is for people to supply that site with the news that you are now requesting and it will more than likely be posted there. Then everything will be in one place which is what you desire...

What Jim says, as well as facebook, twitter, racers websites that all give out the info you've mentioned.I can't see why you'd need to spend time doing what others already are doing TBH. Not knocking you, maybe just saving you time and effort...

Seek out Jon Spoad. He'll be at Goodwood this weekend. He runs an excellent uk nostalgia dragracing site
Jon Spoard WWW.UKDRN.CO.UKThanks for all the replies, the more comments I get the more it takes shape.
I think Tog and the gang do a great job what I'm talking about doing is to give more coverage for those not racing at Santa Pod or Shakey.
I also want to see how we could use technology to allow racers to email and tweet updates directly.
I will keep working on it to see what and if it turns into anything.

We're not really talking about "UK" drag racing then, are we? to have a "uk drag racing" site which excludes half of the regularly used tracks in the UK seems a little strange.
Much like the others, I don't wish to knock what you're doing, but the infrastructure already exists.
A Facebook page with multiple admins, linked to a twitter account would cover the majority of what you want to achieve.
