Reading through some old Classic car magazines last night there was an article on dragster racers during the sixties.

Has anyone on here ever driven or even sat in one as its running?
Can you describe what it is like to be in one as it launches?

I don't think I can begin to imagine the power and fear being in the cockpit of one.

  • edit Sorry should be in the Dragster forum that I didn't know existed.

Yep..i was lucky enough to sit in a friends Top Fuel car when in the states a few years ago. There are not enough words to describe your emotions, the sensations and the adrenaline it produces. I would add that it doesn't have to be a Top Fuel Car to give those emotions. Take your own car to the track and blast it down the track. You will get the same buzz !!!!

I've never raced one, but I've done warmups in the pits. On methanol, they're pretty impressive. On nitro, they're crazy, angry machines, like nothing else I've ever come across. I'd love to race one, but since I don't do the lottery, it's not likely any time soon.

Here's the first Dragster/Top fuel car out side the USA coming to life for the first time in 48 years yesterday. Compared to the F1 cars of the day this must have been like the awakening of the Gods.

I've never driven or sat in one during warm up, though I have seen them race at Santa Pod on numerous occasions over the last couple of years, there is very little that comes close to seeing two of these machines go past side by side finishing the 1/4 mile in under 5 seconds at over 300mph (sadly 1000ft now rather than 1/4 frown).

Get yourself to Santa Pod in September for the finals and experience it for your self smile.

It's methanol. (tip: if it's an alcohol it ends in ol).
