Does anyone know why the provider of the PPV web TV has changed for this Tierp event from the provider for ME, Tierp 1 and Hockenheim?

Smarttv are the best in the business, I have seen their Malmo broadcasts and it is far better quality!

It just made me laugh.

After all of the fall out from Hockenheim and requests for standardisation across the championship.

We now have two different companies doing the live tv, you couldn't make it up.

What does it matter who does the live tv ffs ?? Christ, not long ago live still pics every minute was state of the art coverage, now you're bleating about different companies providing hi-def multi camera live coverage for less than a tenner ?? THAT'S the bit you couldn't make up banghead

So do you only watch the BBC or does ITV get a look in now and again?

I watch any channel.

I would be surprised for the BBC to be covering an FIA championship and then ITV roll up and cover a single race though.

Different broadcasters share events/championships/etc in other sports, as usual I expect whoever puts in the most attractive bid will be granted the broadcast rights for each event.

Even when a single broadcaster has the rights for a championship they don't always use their own production crew, they often use the "locals". F1 is a good example.

Also dont forget this is the first year this kind of thing has been available. Its quite possible that they are testing the waters with multiple vendors. Its not like were talking about large multi million pound tv contracts like with F1.

Thanks for the explanation.

So it is likely that the broadcast is being done on behalf of the Championship broadcaster by somebody else, rather than different tracks just doing their own thing.

Blimey mate, who cares who's doing it, what's it matter, just enjoy the coverage, they're practically giving it away and I don't give a monkeys if CBEEBIES or QVC are covering it, as long as someone does.

I like to get an understanding of how things are organised within Drag Racing who is in charge of what. It's useful to know why things change and for what reason and in who's interest the changes are made for.

It could turn out that a more expensive but better quality web TV provider is chosen for next year and the championship fee the drivers pay bumped up to pay for it. Obviously that is no concern for you but not everyone would necessarily be happy about it.

Blimey, it is a broadcast from a drag race meeting, do we have to analyse why and who by? All we need to know is you pay a very small fee ( For the investment The Smarttv guys have made in equipment, getting to the race etc etc) and watch the broadcast in Real HD! Notice i Didnt mention the word "Crikey" this time!

Take your tin foil hat off, and try not to presume what others may or may not be concerned about.

It's a new thing so they've clearly got to look at the different options and variables. How about you let that happen before assuming things about it ?

Now I may have got this wrong given my shocking memory, but I'm pretty sure some sort of contribution is made towards broadcasting by teams already on account of the exposure sponsors get. If so then they're already paying for it.

Ok maybe its just me showing too much of an interest. I watched the Hockenheim TV show yesterday on the Speedgroup website but it has now been removed. Might have to look at the Tierp coverage on Friday if it will be as good as you all say.

But why is it useful to know why things change and for what reason ? Some things are need to know and this is probably one of the things that we don't need to. You don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure out in whose interest the change from still pictures to live multi cam coverage is.. the fans, factor in the price which is change out of a tenner and it's a no brainer. I do wish folk would give the conspiracy theories a rest and be a lot more 'half full' and a hell of a lot less 'half empty' .

Shouldn't knock it, the way health & safety measures have been going in recent years - in the not so distant future it could well be the best or only way to get a spectators glimpse of pro drag racing as it happens in the UK...

getmecoat

But before I go, many sports charge (more) for this kind of thing and I'd rather help the cause of drag racing with my coffers anytime.
Is it ok to record these things and transfer 'em to DVD too? Copyright and all that?

as long as it's not used to mass reproduce, including youtube, and/or sell the content then you're fine.
