Attention pro mod drivers
Discussion
There is a possible issue that will eventually affect all of us, some sooner than others,
it concerns the 6.3 clutch can, which every pro mod regardless of power adder or transmission type need for this year,
for years the manufacturers of these cans have been trimming the liner back a little so a 168 chevy ring gear (industry standard on most clutches/flexplates) will fit in the can as it will not fit inside the liner,
Now the powers that be SFI foundation have cottoned on to this practice and in short it wont happen again and cans with short liners that do not meet the mid plate WILL fail the SFI certification, Those with the legal full length liner WILL NOT accept a Chevy 168 tooth ring gear weather it is on a clutch or a flexplate and the rules for either are exactly the same,
it seems that Trick Titanium had gone some way to address this in their latest cans i dont know if this mod can be retro fitted to older cans,
so this really depends when your up for re cert if its this year you need to talk to Andy Robinson ( as he does the clutch can recerts ) immediately to see what your possible options are..
but in reality the only option is a smaller diameter ring gear / flex plate, new or moved liner depending on whos can you run, and starter moved to correspond....how easy and how cheap is that on your combo???

This is something we have discussed with the SFI as we haven't really seen a big safety improvement with this. The SFI has claimed that this was always intended in the spec, the bellhousing should be protected all the way to the mid plate.
The major safety problem with the 6.3 is however that a failing ring gear will always likely exit the bellhousing at the starter pocket, which is still allowed to have.
Ask Andy Robinson about the 166 ring gear, I think that might solve your problem, other than that you have to get a new liner...
