Hey guys just a couple of questions regarding chassis regulations. im pretty sure my chassis doesnt comply with the regs but im going to ask anyway so i know in the future to what extrnt i have to change it! you may know ive got a legend that im drag racing, ive checked out all of the tube diameters and these are OK, thee only thing im not sure about is the wall thickness, they are 0.083 ERW. the cars only going to run down into the low 12s (if i learn how to drive properly!) and i want to race it in sportsman et if possible. i talked to slinky at the weekend about tech inspectors and they suggested i get it checked out, just wondering if anyone had any advice and also can the tech inspoectors come to your house (ie if i pay travelling costs), if not would there be one at the nostalgia nats by any chance.

Any car running 12.99 (14.99 for VW's) and quicker needs at the minimum a roll bar (including two rear braces and a door bar), and that has to be a minimum of 0.118 thick steel, or 0.065 chrome moly, so i can tell you without even looking at it that it doesn't comply, which I also told you before you bought it. cheers

That means that you will either have to slow down, run only at dodgy RWYB's or non msa meetings, or get the chassis upgraded, Most of the Chassis builders should be able to do something to help you, but if the whole chassis is made from .083 steel then it would all need doing
Yes we will come to your house, the price is unless its changed 80p per mile one way, There will be no-one at the Nostalgia nats, the next meeting we will be at is the summer nationals at the Pod in three weeks time.

If it does not run faster than 12.99 then it does not need a roll bar, so you would be ok, in theory. I will have to double check the rules on a fiberglass car though, as I think the rules may be slightly different.cheers

Sorry to butt in on this, but if I took my car to a RWYB at Shakey, for example, and it ran faster than 12.99, would I be stopped from running until I had a cage installed, or does this ruling just apply to race series cars?

Thats a very good question...as I am sure mine would easily run a low 12 (at the moment)...and with my new Nitrous system it may well run a 10....
But I am not racing it.....just standing miles and high speed runs etc....
I doubt that rule applies to normal RWYB as most Vipers etc run a LOT faster than a 12.99

There are no regs at the min with regards to Cages at RWYB, but with the current lean towards HSE how long will it be?
I know that Santa pod are now looking at the cars running in the JAP show circuit, and heard rumors that anything running 10 sec or quicker may in the future be disallowed unless it is fully up to spec

To be honest, that's how it should be IMHO. Why does the fact that it's not a championship round affect how safe it is to drive? A 10 second car is a 10 second car, regardless of when it's running. Even if you're prepared to take the risk (and many are), it's not fair to the car in the other lane, who may be the unintended recipient of your failure to properly prepare your vehicle.Tet said:

Yeah i heard the same, but some of these cars run low 8's and to all intents and purposes are drag racing only machines.Check out the video, shows the current level of safety equipement for most

There is however a Skyline in Andy Robinsons workshops at the moment being treated to the full drag chassis treatment, performance benefits alone may encourage more to follow this route.
Unfortunatly RWYB's are a cheap entry into the sport and more rules may well discourage some which would be a shame .
That said the last couple of RWYB's I have done have been at SCR and on both occasions the car was scrutineered before being allowed on the track even though its fully road legal, I have never been scrutineered at Santa Pod, i dont know whether this is a new policy or just track specific
I inspected Tim's car, and a lesson for anyone who is intending on racing seriously is that we do not allow bolt in cages, so if you are planning building one, best to get it built by or at least get information from some of the proper chassis builders in the country. It might save you some money in the long run.

Been chatting on another Forum, had a cunning plan about cages and was wondering if someone could give me an answer on this.
If I were to design and build a cage for my car with removable door bars and rear diagonals would it still be legal for competition? I'm trying to work out a cage that will still allow me a back seat big enough for two (so it can be a fair bit narrower than it is now.
I've just seen an Australian Mustang with a full cage that's fully padded and it got me thinking.
I don't actually want to compete in the car but if ever there's a good time to put a cage in it's while the body is completely stripped out.
I sold my bike because I couldn't take my wife and son out with me, so I'm damned if I'm making that same mistake again.
