Traction Compound
Discussion
Just been reading Lex Joon's latest blog entry on ED and I was interested to read that they didn't spray the Las Vegas track on raceday last weekend due to blistering of slicks on the qualifying days. I've often thought that at the two FIA rounds at the Pod, they seem to spray too much compound on, and too often as well. I would be interested to know what the racers on here think. Is it possible that too much traction compound is used at the Pod?

Sometimes the track at the pod is a bit too sticky though, it really pulls the engine down when it is. I've never seen a slick affected by it though.
At the Eurofinals a few years ago (2004, I think) the fuel cars were all having their tyres ripped to shreds because the track was too sticky.Having witnessed an NHRA Tour event in Vegas a couple of years ago, it occured to me then that we seem to "lay it on thick" compared to our freinds in the States
Over there, they laid down one single application, right up the middle of each lane before each pro session (in other words the truck towing the applicator machine thingy drove up each lane once)
Here the guys seems to go backwards and forwards until every part of the track is covered.
Having walked on SPR's track as well after the EuroFinals, it sure is sticky, so it's not surprising that the tyres here could "chunk"

yes i remember when i was in the pits with smax a couple of years back with the promise car when he red lit against andy in the first round but the incrimentals were great on the run he came back with 2 or 3 huge holes in the tyres where the rubber had litterally been stripped off
i saw it on a fuel bike at this years finals too, although cant remember which one it was

but dont forget they have been having trouble out in the states with tyres de-laminating on fuel cars ie Goodyears so perhaps this combined with the traction compound could cause holes and blistering of the tyres. i would imagine that this is happening to tyres that are not fresh and had a few runs on them and getting down to the bond between the laminations ...just a thought just thought id give my theory
