Top Fuel 1/8 mile times

On This thread someone posed a question about an arrow and a dragster over a 1/4 mile.
As an arrow will struggle to go over 1/8th of a mile i thought i'd see what would win.
But i can't find any 1/8th of a mile times for a top fueler, perhaps someone here can help?

The quickest time by a fueller over the 1/8th is 2.99 by Gary Scelzi when he ran his famous 4.48 in 1998 or something. The only sub 3 second pass over the 1/8th in the history of drag racing. You would have thought the final et would be quicker but about 900ft the engine disintegrated and not much was left.

Pretty quick!

And nearly completely correct, Joe! The missing info on the "2.99" run that Gary ran was, that it happened at Houston in October 1999 in the semi-finals of eliminations and was against Larry Dixon. The run ended up being a 4.480 ET, only the third "forty" (and the quickest of all) achieved at that time. There wasn't a full sacrificial offering from the motor on that run, just a broken pushrod at 1000 ft - enough to hurt the terminal speed. According to a recent TV interview given by Gary on the matter of this particular run, which I managed to catch, the reason for incredible eighth mile ET was, apparently, a caused by a failure in the clutch cannon mechanism and it was only fortuitous that the supreme traction of the Houston track managed to keep hold of those big Good Year hides on that one special run.

In the same interview, Gary also mentioned that (** wait for it **) the water table at the Houston track was another major contributing factor and I have absolutely have no idea why that is so.

Hi Silent1 & Quarter-milers ,
I am the one who asked that question in the P&P,
and also explained why I did not post it here,
Dragracers seldom have time/money/enthusiasm for other hobbies, such as archery.
I just tried to find some distance records on the web, so far this came out :

"The world record for ' longest accurate shot ' is over 1 mile for a recurved bow."

"Distances shot

The furthest distance shot with any bow is 2,047 yards (1,871.84m) .
This was shot by the late Harry Drake in 1988 using a crossbow.
The furthest with a hand-held - and pulled - bow is 1,336 yds 1' 3" (1,222.01m) ,
shot by Don Brown with an unlimited conventional Flight bow in 1987.
My 40kg Compound World Record of 1,162 yards was made shooting a 30 kg bow."



So a quartermile should be possible, perhaps even easy,
for an archer with experience, the right equipment, and powerful arms...

Do you know how level the flight taken by the arrow was - was it fired on a parabola or was it as near as damnit level flight?
