I seem to recall Bernie Hepworth doing similar in his alky dragster in 1995 though he was in the left hand lane so just ended up pointing back at the startline with no damage to the car.

I like the way that guy tried to sneak off and pretend it never happened though, driving away from the safety crew :-)

Oh the shame!

Anyone recall any embarassing moments in British drag racing?

Got to be Harlan Thompson in the Bud fuel coupe.

Couldnt get reverse, and for some reason decided to try and turn round to drive back up after the burnout.

Except FC's arnt known for their small turning circle, so he ended up killing the motor, sat at about 70 degrees to the strip , facing the wrong way !

Yes!

When we decided to let old man Derek Annable drive my dad's TAD at a shakey meeting and he nearly 180'd it backing up from the burnout!! In fact he did pretty much what the video did, but he stopped sideways across the track. When we were walking back to the pits we were so embarassed, but he owned the car we were running up until 2003, so we had to keep him happy.

Fair play, as much as I like the man, he has got to be the biggest nutter i've ever met!

... coming from someone who drives the fuel altered... ohhh the explicit irony!

Håkan Nilsson wasn't too far off doing something very similar at the Main Event in 2006. Fortunately, he managed to recover it when it swung sideways.
