Hi Tog and Quartermilerz !Every swedish national team has the three crowns on their jerseys,
football, handball, ice hockey, etc. etc. ,
and is therefore known as the respective "Tre Kronor" team of the sport.
(Similar to the "three lions" ?? )
So I think it is a humble effort from Knut to tell the dragracing world
that HE runs the swedish "national team" of Drag Racing.
Christmas greetings from germany,
Benni
Just how much of a jump is it from meth to nitro ?
Obviously, theres a hill to climb, but is it possible, with the right gear and team to go from 6.0 to 5.0 or less.....
Im in no way knocking Derek, but I for one know that if my lotto came up, theres no way I could get into a 4 sec car and run the numbers.
How do you prepare for something like that ?
Frank Hawley school is one way I suppose.
Fair play to the man, and I really hope it works out well for the team.

Hawley only goes up to alcohol. Of course, that'll give you some experience of a seriously quick quarter mile time, which is no doubt going to help, but it's not going to be the same as nitro. For a start, you need to change gear in an alcohol car...Frank Hawley school is one way I suppose.
There used to be a couple of people offering Top Fuel driving course in the States (Paul Smith in Florida, and a name that escapes me right now in Tennessee), but I seem to recall that they couldn't make it economically viable, and neither are still going.
As for what it's like, well we can all speculate, but ultimately, the only people that know are the select few that have done it. Darryl Bradford wrote an article about it in that race magazine that folded after its first or second issue (can't remember its name).
I am told in terms of technical difficulty (ie 'stuff you have to do on the run'), top fuel is actually easier than Top Methanol. No gears to shift for a start. The order of difficulty I was given by someone who has experience of these things is that TMFC is the trickiest, followed by AA/FC, followed by TMD with TF being the less demanding to drive. This is, of course, countered by the massive leap in ferocity and duration of the acceleration curve.
Derek will do just fine. Many of the previous clients of Knut have used the experience as a springboard to setting up their own operation.

AA/FA, then TMFC Derek will do just fine. Many of the previous clients of Knut have used the experience as a springboard to setting up their own operation.

Tre Kronor (Three Crowns) is a old emblem for the Swedish Kingdom and it was also a name on a castle and now the cityhall of Stockholm has the emblem on its roof. It is also the nickname on the Swedish hockeyteam. And a funnycar also carried that name so you all won exept the beer company. But you can see the symbol on a lot different stuff in Sweden.

Just to continue this very very important matter, Tre Kronor is not that ancient, it's from 1364, 200 years after the nice vikings.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Crowns
