I am thinking of putting some wildcat heads on my rover v8 to get the last bit of power out of it without going crazy. At a guess with the wildcat heads im hoping to be about 420bhp -450bhp (ish please note). If i had 4K to spend on a chevy sb what sort of power could i expect to get and would i beable to have some good lighter heads and forged pistons H beam rods etc same as what i have in my rover. Would i be better going for a 2nd hand one or getting one built for me ???

Does that £4K figure include the moneuy you'd get from your RV8?

Cos it makes a difference. Although I'm sure that £4K spent wisely on a SBC would see a lot of power (especially if you spend a few hundred quid on some used Holsets).

I was thinking 4k in total ! I know it might seem like peanuts but i have no sponsers and on a budget.

My rover bottom end is a 5ltr rover built by wildcat and it has a 256 cam and forged pistons H beam rods, huffacer inlet, High compresion, total seal rings etc.
Wildcat has a same spec rover with his heads wildcat heads on with dyno sheet at 450bhp with not much compresion. As i say (ish) or roughly.
When my mate put wildcat heads on his 4.8ltr rover it sounded totaly different as they are basicaly chevy heads.

How about investing in a couple of them spinny things for the rover instead?

Or just one like the one I just bought for £30?

Shown pictured with my T3/4 for comparison:

That would leave you plenty of change for a big intercooler (£150-200), some pipework (£200) and some manifolding (~£300 if you make them yourself).

Forced induction has to be the way to go, and there's also no bottle to refill.

well I can tell you what our 383 small block cost.

We already had a very good 4 bolt block so that would need adding to the cost but every other part, nut, bolt and gasket was brand spanking new from jegs.

Eagle 383 balanced rotating assembly with all arp fasteners, forged rods, KB pistons.
Dart pro 1 top end kit, 215 cc pro 1 heads, dart single plane manifold all arp studs and a gasket set.
Moroso sump.
Melling high volume oil pump and pickup.
Crane cam, timing chain set, pushrods and lifters.
Crane pro magnum roller rockers.
Msd pro billet dizzy.
Holley 830 cfm double pumper.
Plus all the other little bits to make a full engine, dizzy clamp, fuel pump block off plate, dipstick etc and a load of spares like oil filters, gasket sets and spark plugs.

After all was said and done with shipping and import duty it all came in a shade under £3000

Did the build ourselves and pumps out around the 500 bhp mark, bloody great value for money if you ask me.

That sounds good ! How much could i get an alloy heads for ?? Would it be worth paying the extra to get some as i would like it to be a light as possible.
What about an LS1 engine, What tunning parts are available for them ?? I can run a 11.5 with no gas and a 10.7 with gas. I am hoping to run around a mid 10 with no gas with the engine that i get. I know its easier said than done wink
