i know i said i wouldnt come back but i need advice...lol
Discussion
hey guys. if youve read eurodragster over the past few days youll know im planning to runa mini pro funnycar, or want to anyway. ive done alot of research and im just wittling down all the qwerks of building such a car. the last thing ive got to sort out is the clutch. i know theres a few guys on here that know there stuff so i thought id ask a bit of advice. basically i was looking at using a slider or a lock up clutch. has anyone got any preference on which is best? also is a 2 stage lock up better or a multistage lockup clutch better? how easy is clutch tuning with a slider or a lockup

Welcome back Adam. Everyone at some point in their lives has left a Forum under a cloud vowing never to come back, and they almost all come back, unfortunately in some cases but we won't go into that since "unfortunately" doesn't apply to you
It might be a good idea to tell these good people which powerplant you are considering for the FC if they are to tell you which would be the best clutch set-up.
Meanwhile I shall await the "Was that a dig at me?" E-Mails

ROFL!....well you reported on ED that i was going to use a zx14 powerplant...i changed my mind LOL....ive done alot of research in the past week and ive changed my ideas to a supercharged hayabusa powerplant(which is rather ironic cos i found out 5 minutes ago that hayabusa means falcon in japanese....you know, aquila motorsport, talon, falon engine...lol spooky). the car in total will weigh around 700lbs and wil have in the range of 300-350hp hopefully, going on what teh yanks do that should put the car into the mid 8 second bracket. ive asked around and the multistage lockup seems the way to go, but before deciding ill see what people suggest on here. the thing that you wont like tog is that i got teh idea of the supercharger froma circuit car(runs for cover) radical sportscars runa supercharged hayabusa that can put out upto 450hp, more than enough for a car that weighs 700lbs! theres a few things to sort out yet, not least money, but hopefully by the end of the year i can seriously think about shipping a rolling car over from the states. the car should cost around the £25000 mark, which aint bad for an 8 second car. it would be a hell of a lot cheeper without import duties and tax!....for instance the rolling chassis and bodywork has everything u need ready to bolt your engine in and go racing and it only costs $8995!...by time it gets into this country it turns out to be about £10000 tho...bloody government! anyhoo im ranting now!

firstly i would like to say your Harris Hawk needs to shed a few ounces i hope its a female...lol
secondly if you are going to spend such a large sum of money on a car why not buy something simpler i think your main problem will be that as these type of cars are not popular over here you will find it difficult to find the people with the expertese to run such a combination. also i would think as i have a couple of friends with bike engined track day cars that it is a very expensive way to go as my friends busa powerd seven engine and transmission cost in over 15 grand and he has to replace parts on it all the time as the thing is so highly strung. and im sure he hasnt got more than 400 bhp out of his.
with 25 grand you could easily buy a faster more reliable and less complicated car with lower running costs

lol yes firstly shes female!....shes 2 pounds 6 ounces....shes called fiesta...not my choice of name, she came from the rspca. i like teh mini pro funnycar, they run high 9 second runs in the states in standard tune, plus ive got a matchbox garage and a crap car so cant tow much. in terms of the engines being highly strung, it depends what you do. im planning to use a rotrex supercharger. they are widely used on radical sportcars that run endurance races and are extremely reliable. and in terms of expense, you can spend as much as you want on engines, just like a V8, the easiest way is getting a road going bike and taking the engine out, the expensive way is going to powertec and spending 10 grand on an engine. the advantage a bike engien car has over muscle cars though is its lightweight, although the muscle cars and dragsters make up for that in power, .....i dunno, horses for courses n all i like to be different! thats why i like drag racing, the variety of cars, everyone can do something different. it would be boring if we all ran mustangs or camaros.....not that theres anything wrong with them!

LOL....no shes called fiesta cos the carer at the animal sanctuary was mexican and he names all his birds in mexican.
as for teh funnycar, its early days yet. as i said i want to do my research first, plus i need to raise the cash, when your going through uni, with only a part time job it aint the easiest thing to do!...but initially i want to import a rolling car, and bolt in a hayabusa engine. run it standard initially then add a few things. first on the list is a power shifter ( a seemless electronic shift used on hayabusa engined circuit cars) and a microdash. after that ill add the new clutch, probably a mulit lockup clutch after all teh advice ive had. then comes the rotrex supercharger ( http://www.tts-performance.com/catalog/product_inf... anlong with carillo conrods, je pistons and a dry sump kit from big cc. initially i want to run teh car in pro et and then progress to super pro. these cars run in super pro in teh states and are legal to 7.5 seconds. the current european record is held by mr exile at 8.95 seconds so thats our first target! then after that the american record is held at 8.1 seconds, that will take a little more effort me thinks! like i said tho it wont be for a year or 2, and when we start it, it will be a development process over a couple of years to get it into super pro et. im under no illusions it wont be easy, but i firmly belive in bike engined cars and think they can hold their own against more powerful machinary....to a point obviously, im not going out to race spuff LOL...having said that turbo has a harley motor sitting on his floor at home that could help LOL
as for the body, well its ageneric bodyshell so i can put any face on it i like, in the states the monte carlo and grand prix are popular, but i rather like the gto, toyota camry and charger, so ill see.....also depends if we can get sponsorship to badge the car as a particular car.....you never know we could have the fastest skoda in the world!
just out of interest if youve never seen one on the strip heres a vid of testing in a car park with the body off http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUDYNen9XIQ
and heres the first run of the car, it starts in second gear and runs a 10.6 witha stock hayabusa motor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xB1Qt7ZIKpU

dont get me wrong i am not knocking you but speking from experience trying something different is always expensive and its very easy to get completly disshartend with it all then before you know it all the best laid plans and expectations go to pot and you take up golf or something unless you are 1000% comitted or you need commiting? as for bike engined cars v proper engined cars....theres no replacement for displacment
P.S. i used to hunt my female Harris at 1lb 11 oz and my male at 1 lb 4 oz if you need any info on birds of pray feel free to give me a shout

hey lee
yeh dont worry i know you werent knocking me! but if someone doesnt try if for the first time how does anyone know its a good idea or not! plus im not going into it blind, the mini pro funnycars have been around for a few years and therers a bike engined drag site www.umdra.com that has loads of useful info and a forum. yes i agree theres no replacement for displacement, however weight has a part to play too! sweet, i love harris hawks, fiesta was found flying around dudly town centre by the rspca so they bought her into the rescue centre my friends run, she bonded with me so i ended up adopting her. we think she was released, shes been inprinted the wrong way so tends to be extermely vocal, although as shes gotten older shes quietened down. shes not a bad size for a harris, her heavy weight is 2 pounds 6 ounces flying weight for displays is 2 pounds 4 ounces and huntijg weight is 2 pounds 2 ounces. shes just maturing at the moment and will be 2 in may. shes a funny little character, is great with kids and strangers and loves the attentioon, jus dont go near her with a dog cos all hell breaks loose! ive never heard a scream like it!
ps im crap at golf so no chance of that happening!

Hi Cougar !
It is difficult even for me to sort out the different branches of the Habermann Family tree,
they are ALL racing, but in different and competing teams.
I wish you success with your Junior FC project,
it is always challenging to start something new.
I like your engine choice more...........

Cheers,
Benni
