Well have entered my rice burner for Super pro et & Comp Eliminator for the first time in the May Main Evenet & cant wait :-)

The car is nowhere near ready yet but loads of progress this year & 60 foots getting better all the time (1.17 & 1.18 latest).

Only entered both to try them out to see longer term which would be the better series for us.

Has anyone got any links to either sites or series so i can really try & get my head around the class rules please.

huge thanks
John

Firstly Have you got an MSA spec competition licence? The correct spec MSA helmet and firesuit & gloves ? Is the car Chassis tagged? does it have a MSA log book?

Then you need to be a member of either SPRC or APIRA You will then recieve the White book (msa drag racing regs) Plenty to read and learn but every one will help you understand the rules.

yes have the MSA licence etc, car was signed off last year in terms of cage, bellhousing etc but will apply for the log book when i get it scruiteneered. I did enter an event at the end of last year but had a rod through the side of the block 2 weeks before so that was that.

Sorry for dumb questions but never needed to do much but turn up for the Jap series. Do i need to do the observed runs on the friday ie/ burnout, 60 foot, 1/8 & then 1/4?

Just so i can get my head 100% around it for Spet - can you change your dial in time every run if you wanted to? & if so who do you have to report the change to?

For Comp Eliminator - how are the handicaps worked out? - is it on dial in time again & then on staggered lights (first past the line wins?) & if you go under the run is null & void?

sorry guys but i'd sooner ask the questions now in advance (sure you've heard them all before -lol)

Best bet is to contact the race director on that front, he'll confirm all of those questions.

Su-Pro you can indeed change your dial in for every run, racers use everything from a kids blackboard to shoe whitener to digital dial in boards to display their index, this needs to be shown to the folks looking after the timing computers in race control (up in the gantry)

can't remember at the moment, you need someone like Herb Dean or Tet to confirm..

Better to ask the questions now than turn up at the track unprepared chap!

Comp eliminator, you get an index/class assigned based upon the car type, engine configuration/size and car weight. I would imagine for your car you would be BT/A which carries an 8.10 index (that is a guess though, 2.8litre engine?)

The difference between class indexes is then used to decide the handicap between cars off the line (staggered tree)

From there its first to the finish line wins in eliminations, in qualifying the person who is furthest under their index qualifies number 1

If you go more the 0.5second under your index at any point the competition index control (CIC) comes in and your index is altered for the duration of the event

If you go more than 0.7second under your index then CIC again comes in the the index is permanently adjusted

I can't remember how much it is adjusted by however.

Regarding observed runs you are best off contacting Darren Prentice at Santa Pod (race director)

Check with the race director in advance. Because of the large number of entries, they haven't been allowing people to do their observed runs at recent FIA events. I'm assuming this year will be the same. You may have to do them in advance at something like the PTM show, one of the RWYB weekends, or the pre-Main Event test day.

The great thing about Comp Eliminator is that there are no breakouts -- you can't lose by going too quickly. Comp Eliminator is divided up into classes, based on the chassis type, weight, engine size and aspiration. Depending on your weight to engine size ratio, you'll end up in one of AT/A, BT/A, CT/A or DT/A. Each class has its own index. You run against your class index, the vehicle in the other lane runs against their own index. The start is staggered to take account of the differences, and the first to cross the line wins. If you go under your class index by a large enough margin, the class index is lowered (either for the duration of the meeting, or if you go far enough under, permanently).

The current European class index times are available on the Comp Eliminator Association web site. You can find more information about the class on the (now unmaintained and somewhat out of date) UK Comp web site.

Other than that, just go out and have fun. If you come across something you don't know, just ask. Most racers are generally happy to help. For me, it's great to see someone from the Jap racing scene make the jump to mainstream drag racing. I hope you do well...

Hope no truant officers are viewing this thread but 12 year old Skyline mad son persuaded me to let him have last Friday off school when you were testing at the Pod, Wow that car certainly launches nice but that was no skyline gearbox on the floor was it - it certainly looked expensive.
My lad's more keen than ever now to get to the main event - Good Luck.

Thanks a lot & you are more than welcome to let your lad dive into the car if he wants to have a look around.
Gearbox is a 5 speed jerico with air shift that went in with the chassis mods last year.
Last friday was great for testing & datalogging, hardly anyone at the track & worth every penny of the £50 to take part.

It's getting there slowly as far as launches go, to be honest we have concentrated on nothing else so far this year apart from trying to get the clutch & launch right & it's starting to show real progress.
Luke Robinson helped us last week & jesus he was brilliant from a knowledge & set up point of view.
Just needs a lot of more time spent developing it this year & me to pull my finger out & drive it properly -lol

Massive thanks to everyone for the info above - really helps
