Having seen the HUUUUGE crowds the cacklefest pulled in over the 2 days I was there, how come SPR dont take a stand ?

Can you imagine how big a crowd would be to see a Pro mod and current Fuel car fired up ?

The promotional opportunities are massive.

Surely SPR are missing a trick here? or have I missed something ?

yes, is Goodwood a target audience for drag racing?

curiosity for the small sideshow at a country house classic car and f1/hill sprint is almost as far as you can get from genuine paying visitors arriving at SPR to see the real thing.

Motorsport enthusiasts that dont object to paying to see the right kind of spectacle ?

Target demographics for SPR if you ask me.

SPR actually have quite a long history of being represented at Goodwood Festival of Speed I have seen them there on numerous occasions!

As for the comments re Sprinting, do grow up!

I have been around drag racing for over 25 years and spread the gospel whenever I can, and i have never ever had any circuit racing, rallying, sprinting or anything else type racing comment on our sport in anything but admiring terms, I thought that kind of prejudiced view of other forms of motorsport went out with the sad old "Oh the bikes are on lets piss off to the bar" boys!!!

Absolute, unadulterated rubbish! I can`t really think of a better marketing opportunity than Goodwood. I have no doubt that there will be a few new attendee`s.

Yes, quite. And none of the cars which run in oh I don't know - let's say the Historic Saloon Cup which supported this years British Grand Prix - have yank motors in them and isn't full of Mustangs. And you certainly won't find Nick Whale, a director of the BRDC driving a Mecury Comet Cyclone Apologies for rubbish picture, it was too fast for the camera on my phone. But what a noise it made :-)

So yeah, circuit racers are not anti yank stuff or anti drag racing. From the looks of this forum there are enough drag racers who are anti drag racing without needing to worry about circuit racers anyway.

not sure of your point, but if its to say yanks can be classic cars, I wouldnt argue, but to most a CLASSIC sports car is a Healey 3ltr or even worse, a MGB.

Capt Ruthington-Smythe Fortescue (RM retd) is likely to be at Goodwood, but unlikely to be at SPR

demographics cant be beaten

What Santa pod have very sucessfully achieved over the last few years is 'establishing the brand'. This is perhaps a more important definition of the success of such promotions than to assume that extra 'bums on seats' is the only way to directly quantify the value of marketing.

As has been said elsewhere, motorsports enthusiasts are generally a very eclectic bunch, and appreciate the efforts of racers whatever path they have chosen. I posted and perused Pistonheads for a few years before the drag racing forum was established, and always found the regulars of what was primarily a TVR and circuit based online community to be incredibly interested, supportive and appreciative of Drag Racing.

The notion of snobbery amongst the 'higher echelons' of the motorsports fraternity is absolute bunkum, to be honest. I have never had anyone decry or devalue drag racing on the basis of class or colonial prejudices.

Should any such snobbish thoughts exist, I am sure the efforts of a couple of people on here (who really should know better, TBH) have served only to reinforce their own twisted stereotype. The sport has taken a huge leap forwards in terms of professionalism and credibility over the last few years, and appearances at Goodwood, and acceptance onto big-time media media such as PH are both a cause and a reflection of this. Drag Racing is now the most popular specific motorsports forum topic on one of the biggest and most influential motoring websites. The kind of inverse snobbery and personal back-biting we have seen on here recently can only do the sport harm.
