Ta muchly chap, there was a few niggling issues which meant we only got one proper shot at a 60ft test squirt at the end of the day, after Mr. Hall's Vette pre-empted my own pass lol. At the hit it hooked (despite having no clutch in it at all), blackstriped a bit and went skywards, so I lifted, hit it again, same result, and then thought just keep yer foot in and see what happens, and up it went, I believe triggering the 60ft beams on the back wheels (60ft time was only 1.61). Some weight ballast in the front should cure it, but we got everything done that we wanted, so it was a successful weekend overall smile

Andy is correct, this was another target out of the way ie the very first movement of the car under its own power. The logistics of getting a new car to the track are nightmarish, this gets better with time.Jon did ok for what where bassicly familiarisation tests. On the hit the car went up which we didnt really expect as the clutch had soft settings right through it.The burnout and reverse took longer than normal so this consumed about 6 gallons,so the tank was light and the engine was hot ,to give jon his dues he tried 3 times and each time it picked the whheels up,the car does run a bar .At the end of friday we decided to go home as the car had done everything we needed to see, abviously it needs lead in the front and some different clutch levers,All in all an interesting day which was the end result of a 2 year build.By the way this was the fist rat engine on fuel 95 percent to go down the track since the Stones which must of been 30 years ago.thanks to all that helped at the weekend, fuzzy, mental, hazel, luke ,well done jon, next outing hot rod drags, where ill have 2 fuel slingshots out, jons car and nick and sue osgathorpes car in the same pit cant wait,

Congratulations, Jon! It certainly looks like you found the loud pedal!

This is just reward for the eons of hard work, blood, sweat and tears - not forgetting that the project ahas swallowed up a pile of cash as big as Snowdon. You deserve every success in yours and the team's endeavours. Congratulations, again.

Ta muchly chaps, it took a long time to reach this point, but it was worth it. I'm still on cloud 9 about it tbh. There's still a bit to do, but with a few tweaks before the HRD's there should be more horizontal propulsion than vertical smile

...having run out of Jaffa cakes long before the Friday, that situation needs re-assessing, too!

Vic had his latest car at the Pod on Saturday with Sam Freeman driving, I'm still
sorting my photos, will update my site soon. Car is a 200" FED with a blown SBC 370cu.
Sam ran a 8.88/147, car ran 7.70's in the States.

After Smax lifted the wheels at the finals a few years ago, we filled the front end with roofing lead. No idea whether that cured it or whether just getting the clutch settings right did the trick, but it didn't seem to do any harm, so we left it in there for a bit. As they say, if you're worried about weight in a top fuel car, somethings gone wrong because you should be making enough power that it doesn't matter :-)

Congratulations on finally getting the car out on the track. It's been a long time coming. I bet the Hot Rod Drags seem like an eternity away now :-)

You're on the right track there Tet but i think that a large part of the reason for Jon's wheels up launch was because he did not launch at full throttle.Had this been the case the clutch was allowed to lock up as opposed to slipping and locking up further into the launch as per the design of the clutch. Also given the fact that Jon has NEVER driven any form of racecar before shows great testimony to his nerve and his faith in his mentor/constructor.Well done Jon and Bill.(by the way as you are probably aware, i too crewed on a top fuel dragster,2005 european championship winners!!) Good to see you running in sp/et too, all the best Andrew

Indeed. I think I still have a picture somewhere of your T-shirt after it all went sour :-) As for SP-ET, what's up with that? From memory, I think you've only been out at one meeting this year. Any plans for more?
