SBC 383 or 400-406 ci
Discussion
Im trying to find the best engine combo that would suit me for power, Strength and in the pocket. I have now got a 6-71 blower lined up to go with my AFR227sp heads. I have been looking for a 400 or 406 ci engine and have trying to find out some info on the two engines and ive read that 400+ block suffer from heat and are not as strong but been told the extra cubes make the diffrence and they are worth buying
Can i have some advice on the two engines and if they are much diffrence on strength and power and just wondering if my heads would fit on a 4" bore or would i need the 4.125" bore.
Also im struggling to find a 400 block for the right price and would even concider one with all the internals in if it was forged and low compression. Has anyone got any links to any for sale. (please)

I have no idea on these engines but would just like to point out a saying I hear a lot on another forum. "why worry about a few extra cc's- it's a couple of extra pounds of boost". You have to calculate the £/power ratio to see if it's worth it compared to going down another avenue for your power.

I know in drag racing we are going for the ultimate power output but there always has to be compromises.
By the way- what's your chassis going to think of all this extra torque?

Hello...........go 400 SBC... why free valve unshrouding...4.125 bore VS 4.00 bore of 350. = better flow'n engine / free BHP.. also there is NO replacement for DISPLACEMENT....
No problem with 400 SBC blocks ...we've got plenty.. USE 2 bolt block with splayed 4 bolt cap conversion... good to 700 + BHP... prep'd right.
Cheers! DR,Dee

don't bother with the 400 block or the 6/71. You'll end up with a weak and rare starting point for a block and a blower you need to spin high to get decent boost.
If your sold on small block, then a Motown block is your best starting point, but personally I'd go for a 454cu in big block if you can, 4 bolt mains with a 8/71 blower and you'll have torque the 400 could never have made at a lower rpm and without spinning the blower high.

Unfortualtly i wouldnt get a bbc in my jeep, A few people have said to get a 383 4 bolt with a good roller cam steel crank, H beams and forged pistons and that 6-71 and that should do the job nicley (I hope) Im only looking for about 600hp and been able to run mid 9s if at all possible. If your sold on small block, then a Motown block is your best starting point, but personally I'd go for a 454cu in big block if you can, 4 bolt mains with a 8/71 blower and you'll have torque the 400 could never have made at a lower rpm and without spinning the blower high.

If you need a hand with anything give me a shout .
Ok then
Just get me all the freebies and the big discounted parts you have managed to get yourself
And i would have a near free engine
The best way is to get your jago in a magazine then you shoud have no bother.

Only thing is in most peoples eyes its only a jago jeep and not many people are bothered about them and its a funny thing to race. It neither here nor there.
If there was a mag called scruffy oddball jeeps i think i might fit the description
look up "svante ericsson, hemi jeep" - yeah baby!

To me thats its biggest asset. Its only a Jago Jeep, but with a RV8 doing 10s on its back wheels or with a blown SBC doing 9s (maybe) it makes more people take notice.

Its different so its more appealing in my eyes.
