I'm off there too. Staying in Alachua, just outside gainsville. Haven't got any tips, as I haven't been there either!!
Just make sure you get your tickets (for the event) as they sell out faster than the other events due to more overseas folk going.
Also, I found it cheaper to fly to jacksonville, rather than Gainsville and then drive from there.
Also, make time to visit Don Garlits Museum of drag racing, as it is just down the road.

Traffic is reasonably heavy around Gainesville. It takes longer to drive from one side of the city to the other than you'd expect, so allow plenty of time. Also, I've heard that there are large queues to get into the strip on racedays, so try and get there early (although I've never been during the Gatornationals, so I don't have personal experience of this).
I'm going with Grandstand , staying in the Marriot in Gainsville as part of a longer holiday in Florida. Is it important to have Grandstand tickets for every day or is general admission OK for non race days? Also does anybody know the rough programme { ie Top Fuel qualifying both Friday and Sat, is there any nighttime stuff etc}. I assume it will be the dreaded 1,000ft but even so it will be my first drag race in the US so I'm looking forward to it.
