There has never been a Funny Car 4 second pass outside the US and after nabbing the 300mph 'badge', I always thought that John Spuffard would grab the 4 second one as well... but alas, that was not meant to be.

Gary Densham, at Willowbank Raceway (down under), locked that little barrier up and took it back to the USA with him, when he didn't just break the 4 second barrier; he crushed it: A 4.86sec pass at 309.70mph has pretty much done the job very nicely.

It's hardly surprising - a state of the art US Funny car, a 35 year race veteran and superb track preparation added to a warm Summer evening was just what was needed.

It's just a pity one of our boys couldn't do it. We can still look forward to the first 4 in a funny car in Europe.... It's just that the "First 4 outside the USA" sounds better. Never mind.

Thanks to Alan Peck and our cheery chum (and Aus Native) Michael Veskovich for breaking the news on good old NitroMater

I saw that and it mean't nothing, not for me anyway as Gary is not one of 'their boys' nor is his car one of their cars. Worst thing that could have happened down there as the FC's have struggled more than we have, now they have nothing to aim for. We could have run the first 4 second run 3 years ago by just bringing Jimmy Prock over with me, he has offered on more than one occassion. Personal satisfaction in doing that? ZERO!!!

the teams do have something to aim for and that's beating the run put down by gary and by doing it themselves, something similar to what you believe in, then that will be more meaningful to the aussie fans i'm sure. The f/c teams seem to be on a roll down under, hopefully as with europe, but the main problem those guys have is the reluctance of the promotors of one of their best tracks having them race.

Where does it state the FC teams are on a roll down there? I am in regular contact with them and that's not what I hear. They are 3 tenths away from a 4 at best. The promotors are obviously pro FC that's why they paid for GD to be there with 2 cars and not pay the local guys instead.

Anyway, the way I see it, that will not be the quickest and fastest FC/driver outside of the US for much longer as both will be on their way back home soon.

I also see there is no name attached to your profile so not sure if you are a fact researcher/informer or just another keyboard warrior. No dig intended.

Is the key point here.

Lets not get too caught up with the time slip.

There's no doubt in my mind, given the track that Spuff/Gary/Thomas will run 4 secs at the Pod this year, lets not get too hysterical over a one off paid appearance .

Particularly as the items mentioned in bold are not too disimilar to the Uk.

I would have been more surprised if GD had NOT run a 4 at over 300mph.

From my understanding the number of funny car teams have increased recently, similar to over here. That was my aim in saying they are on a roll. I'm sure the times will come down just as they are in europe. Also from my understanding not all promotors are pro fuel funny car but clealry as you're in regular contact with them i may be wrong.

It's good to hear about your aims to get the record back where it belongs and good luck to you, i hope you achieve it.....and then some !

Finally, i didn't know i had to put my name on my profile but to satisfy your enquiry my name is tony adamson smile

Bob Jarrett. When you posted something rather disingenuous and for no good reason early last year, I asked you by private email what you considered to be the purpose of your FC, a question that seems to have more resonance given that you feel you could have achieved 4 seconds anytime you felt like it.

You failed to respond. Disingenuous x 2.

So please don't criticise the postings of others simply because they expressed an genuine opinion which clearly upset you.

Good luck to the Aussies. You had your chance.

Thanks Ron. I will take it under advisement. I assume your edits were for typo's? BTW never saw any "private" e mail from you but then I would have to assume that my junk filter did it's job.

Disingenuous 3.

Appears to be based on if you have a funny car you arrogantly and stupidly assume that you can insult anybody. Even out of the blue and for no good reason at all in early 08.

Case proven.

Nothing more to say.

A european Fuel Funny car 4 second run would be great to see but I would rather see pure heads up racing like this any day of the week.

The crowds love it, The promoters love it and I am sure the teams involved love it.
