Terry Haddock (car owner) is not aware that there is a problem and is in fact working on prepping the car as I type so I guess it's an administrative error.

Slightly off topic but this caught my eye in the entry list:

Is that actually a 15 year old Top Fuel car running in an NHRA event or is it like Trigger's broom? The next oldest car is 5 years old.

I also like the fact Urs's car is built by a mysterious chassis builder only known as '*********' :-)

Chrisman is AFAIK entirely self funded, and has been running the same car for many, many years. He races on a tiny fraction of the budget of most of the rest of the field, and rarely qualifies. He's just racing for the fun of it. Good on him. As for the car, it will have had to have been back halved at least and will have had extensive chassis modifications as the regulations have changed over the years. Whether that can still be called the same car is a matter for debate...

I have just spoken to Andy and it was indeed an admin error. He is now back on the entry list as TF261.

You beat me to it - just about to post that his name is back on. Albeit with a different number.

Who also reckons that Urs will be paired with Andy on the first qualifing run?

Silly question perhaps, but will Andy require at least familiarisation passes, if not cross licencing?

I asked this question myself and the answer was no.

Indeed, to cross-reference another thread if the economic situation in the US does impact on racers then hopefully what we will see is a return to the days when you could be self funded and not just have a chance of qualifying, but a chance of winning. The whole sports entertainment thing is out of hand. But like I said, this is a subject for another thread: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Not a silly question at all!
From my understanding and I am not saying it is fact but when I asked re this, I was told (when I asked about TAD/TMD) that we are considered Division 8 (well actually that is the rest of the world) apparently they do not accept our medicals though, so you have to have another medical and then you are good to get yourself an NHRA licence, providing you are already licensed at that level. This is why European racers can race at Pomona as our FIA points count as Divisional; normally you need a certain amount of Divisional points before you can race at any of the Nationals. As I say this is just my understanding but if anyone knows for sure, please tell us more! Also they do not seem to do familiarization passes for new cars or new to the driver cars as providing you hold the correct licence and the car is teched ok, you are good to go. Personally I like the way we do it, as I am not sure I would like to be in the other lane running against some one who has never driven that car before! Or for that fact a car that has never run before, but as I saw in Pomona Larry was straight in with a brand new car and was paired up.

Thanks Derek, great reply.

Actually, my next question was going to be why Andy had a Division 2 race number rather than a Division 8 one as given to Grumpy in the past, as well as the Nordic Pro Stocks who toured last year?

Andy already had an NHRA race number from his original sojourn years ago, even though it did not work out. NHRA allowed Andy to use that number when he applied for the Winternationals, and he appeared on the entry list with it last week. Then NHRA realised that another NHRA racer had that number so they allocated another race number to Andy.

That is why Andy dropped off the list last week and not for any of the silly reasons people were trying to tell me smile

He spends a lot of time in Florida according to his Eurodragster blog - does he have a place over there and therefore counts as a division 2 racer?
