Thunderball Commentary....
Discussion
Just a quick note to congratulate the new commentators at this weekend's Thunderball. I realise that they are not new to the game and Daryl has done a great deal of work in the past but it did it for me, fresh voices, fresh approach and everyone I spoke to agreed. Well done, here's to success for the future.
Yep, I thought the commentary was pretty decent. A few "no, that's not right" moments, but no more than when John and Graham were at the helm. I also liked the new Eurodragster coverage (although I refused to pay the extortionate hotel internet charges, so I didn't get to read it until I got home). Having the summary information straight from the timing system after each session is excellent. The best change over the weekend, though, was the lack of "y'all ready for this". I believe thanks are due to TheMighty for that one...

The new commentary team was absolutely fantastic. It was difficult to imagine that anyone could take over from John and Graham, but they did and admirably so. Tet - if you had switched on your laptop anyway, you would have picked up the free wireless from across the road at the Priory...

Heh. I even went and sat in The Priory's car park to try and get a signal, but it wasn't having any of it. Maybe I'll give it another go next time...Good performance from the 2 "not-really-newbies" under the headphones..
!!
After this jump into cold water (literally), they quickly learned to swim,
it was entertaining listening.
I only remembered John when the track crew did the "soft-shoe-shuffle"....
,
Dave and Barry gave the usual good comments "from the inside".
Richard must have some good pix,
I saw him standing inbetween lanes quite often...
Who was the lucky lensman standing on the left side,
flashing -his camera, I mean- exactly in the millisecond
the eurodragster webcam caught the wheelie ?
Tog´s comments were as good as ever,
the new "results sheet" thingie might take a bit of stress off him in qualifying.
(Or maybe he is missing this, he is a real number cruncher,
when the announcer screen in Hockenheim did not work properly on Friday 08,
he calculated the "top 5" mentally in 6 classes and had only 2 cars "off"...
)
Roll on the PTM Show, I´ll see some of you there !

Hi Benni. Yes, it was me who produced the flash capured on that unbelievable web-cam shot. I'm embarrassed to say that I was caught off guard by a second or two by the early leave of the driver. As I was walking up to the point we shoot across track, he left early and I just tried to "machine-gun" the moment as I was bringing the camera to my eye. I was trying to see the positive side of my mis-shot, revealing every nut and bolt of the top 3 feet of his chassis and when I checked out the fabled pages of Eurodragster and realised the web-cam had just made me look a complete idiot! No change there, then!I saw him standing inbetween lanes quite often...

Hey ho!

Only heard bits of the commentary as we were pushing down into the pairing lanes (Rune needs to buy a radio!), but what I heard was really good.
A bit surreal not hearing John and Graham, but the guys did good.
Robin - to solve that little problem, you can have this:- (next time I see you)A bit surreal not hearing John and Graham, but the guys did good.

Then there'll be no excuse keeping up with news while you're fixing up that dragster!
When John and Graham left I was worried that it just would not be the same at the track any longer but I needn't have worried - the new team did a great job. It was good to have a bit of variety too - Darryl and Barry for instance. You could even tell that Darryl had grown up listening to Pricey and Beckwith at times.
All in all a job done well - I was at the track on Sunday and listening at home on Monday most of the day.

I thought they took it up admirably too.
Very informative, and referring back to basics occassionally for the benefit of the newbies - which even to a gnarled old veteran spectator still aids the viewing and keeps you focussed.
Even went and bought one of those earpiece reciever things finally!
