The first 4 second nitro funny car run by a none North American has gone to Damien Harris at the Aussie Winternats when he ran 4.989. Bit gutting for the Showtime crew; I guess they'll just have to go faster and bring the record back to blighty!

Not gutted at all. We are quite a way off yet. Congrats to Damien

if i had a decent computer i could run the figures on the difference between a SPR 5.0 uphill (if i knew the rise over the quarter mile) and the aussie AAFC time with the strips gradient....

But fuel likes load and therefore going uphill will be working the fuel harder... there are also far too many other factors, drag, air resistance, downforce etc - just accept it for what it is!

The startline at Willowbank is at 55M above sea level, dropping to 53 at about 660 foot before rising again to 54 at the finish line. It then plummets (relatively speaking) down to 44 M above sea level at the end of the run off area. The end of the run off area is 0.44 miles beyond the finish line, with a fairly unforgiving looking catch fence at the end of a sand trap another 0.04 miles further on than that.

We did the figures for SPR last year some time, but to summarise, the startline is 104M ASL, rising steadily down track to 106M ASL at the finish line. It then drops back down to 104M ASL at the end of the shutoff area, some 0.49 miles ater the gantry.
