Mantorp startline

It was very busy, but then again the fire-up road is directly behind the start line. Rather than waiting alongside the cars like you would at the Pod, the majority of the crews stood and watched the racing up until there were a couple of pairs to go.
Ahh that makes more sense. Rat_Fink_67 said:

Compared to the Pod for example there were also far more people hanging around the start line who should not have been there. For example I watched one Pro Stock team member take what must have been a mate of his to the start line wearing his team pass, when they got there the team member took his pass back off the guy and left him there for the rest of the afternoon. There was a lot of that sort of thing going on. Also there were a lot of under-eighteens hanging around by the start line and they should not have been there, period, unless they were crewing with a Junior Dragster which they most certainly were not doing during Pro sessions.
But I didn't see much in the way of security around the start line and if I knew it then everyone else must have known it too.
No you're right, the security wasn't exactly water tight, although by Sunday (perhaps too late I know) the track crew were stopping any crew members entering the fire up road unless their particular class was running....a token gesture I know by that stage but I think it goes to show the over populated area behind the startline didn't go unnoticed by officials.
There were ways round it though and I hold my hands up to "sneaking" on to the startline whilst the nostalgia funnies were running (homework mission!). One thing I will say though is despite the crowd I didn't think it hindered any of the cars or teams there that were due to run, obviously everyone present in that environment was mindful that there's a job to be done and as I say I don't think anyone suffered. The biggest hazard I thought was the alarmingly high number of stones and debris that seemed to find it's way in to the water box, and despite the track crew's best efforts I wasn't alone in getting shot in the neck and leg a few times whilst standing with the car lol.

The stones and more is attached to slicks and comes off with a speed in the burnout.
When Promod runs you see a lot of team members from Top Fuel,Funny car,Dragsters and Pro stock watching from the startup area. Maybe they like the show? I have no problem at all with the crowded area. All are very friendly and showing respect for each other.

Viewing options at Mantorp very limited. Some liggers are bound to hang round the start line but paying spectators get short changed. Tractors and other machinery might not be aesthetically pleasing at Santa Pod but spectating is 100% better than Mantorp.
Mantorp is fine if you get in a grandstand. In previous years there has been a racers stand that the view is good from, is that still there?
