you'll either need a cable drive take off on the mag to a cable drive tach
or a tach adapter to run a standard tach off the magneto

Magneto Signal Converters can be got from AutoMeter, part number 9117 or 9118. People have a lot of trouble with noise/interference on them though and I know some people who at least used to swear by a mechanical tach, not sure if they still do.

You might have a tach which is designed to use an inductive pickup - this works with a magneto. If this is the case the pickup goes around the lead from the positive terminal of the coil to the magneto. AutoMeter made a Sprint Mag tach like this, model 19233

In summary, not as easy as you first thought.
