I was surprised to read on Eurodragster that Keith Bartlett says there will not be an FIA race at Kunmadaras next year. Does anyone know why?

Reading the quote it looks like there will be an FIA bike meeting in 2009 but this time with some demonstration cars {presumably including TF} so that it can be licensed for a full FIA round in 2010.

Extra FIA rounds are of course very welcome as a European Championship with only 5 rounds is a bit limited though other people have pointed out that with {unlike the NHRA] all the teams basically being part time with other jobs if you got to have 8 or 9 rounds most of the crews would run out of holidays to take. I don't think there is the money for many teams to go fully professional so I think you would tend to only get a few teans doing every round in the enlarged championship.

Looking at for example Malta which seems to have a fairly well established set up and normally good weather the problem would be that it would take the Northern European teams simply ages to get there and back.

I would guess that to be fully licensed for FIA competition that the track will have to be homologated under the FIA rules. I can't find it in the regulations for tracks, but I know that this was mentioned before in relation to the middle-east tracks, that a number of FIA Championship classes need to run on the track at an event before it will be given the approval for a full Championship event. Hence the need to run an "exhibition" event first.

You are quite right but you would have saved yourself a lot of typing had you said "As the news item says" biggrin

But back in May the Eurodragster news item reported Keith Bartlett as saying "...they would also be looking to take the FIA European Championship to Kunmadaras in 2010". So what has changed between May and now?

"Looking to" is desire, not definite. I am looking to have another go in a race car this year but it doesn't mean it will be happening.

I don't know the official reason for no FIA at Kunmadaras next year but I do know that the track will need to be ground to take out bumps where the concrete joins. Maybe that is the reason.

It could be a lot of other things, though. Whatever, nothing will be happening on the FIA front until the exhibition event has taken place.
