Basicaly what the heading says, I'll be heading up to see my first 'proper' drag racing event smile

I once went to a event at santa pod (CSMA day??) when they ran a couple of top fuel(?) cars and couldn't believe the noise and the ground shake.
That must have been about mid 90's...I bet things have changed now

Taking the misses as well as she has always wanted to go and has never heard or experienced it before!

Any top tips, things we must see?
All info greatly appreciated

We are both very excited to be able to make it this year bouncebouncecool

They were Fuel Funny cars , basically same engine/fuel as a Top Fuel Dragster but engine in front of the driver .

Tips .. get there early, take a walk round the pits , pick your spot on the banking or grandstand and enjoy .

Thats a pic of my Dad on one of his shakedown runs when the car was first finished. Damaged the gearbox that weekend but I remember it being a good event.

Geez looking harder it must be an old event because thats my Mum in the other lane with the Carlton ready to collect him back. They stopped tow cars on the track a long time ago now!

all weather gear (wet and dry)
ear defenders
folding chairs (or pay for the stands, or get a wet bum)
toilet paper
headache tablets
money
camera
sleeping bag (or wake her up...lol)

and if your camping, move your car nearer the exits before the final rounds of TF/PM/etc....lol

Dan, IIRC I must have weighed about 12 1/2 stone at that time and you were about the size of a pipecleaner and made me look very overweight.

Shamefacedly I have to admit I stood on the scales in the packing shop just now after I saw that picture and I weighed in at 128 Kg....

Love of a good woman and all that I suppose.

7 1/2 stone in 11 years - that's about the same rate as Cannon! Mind you I have put on 1/2 stone in the past 6 months and it has got to come off!

Jim, in my defence I have to add that I used to be even heavier but dropped 11 stone in 9 months between late 1997 and mid 1998.

However you are right and I am now a fat b'stard and seriously need to lose some lbs...

A few questions please:
How early? I see it opens at 9am, was thinking about 8ish?
Watch near start line, half way along or at the finish (or all 3!)???
Is the carpark near by? (Can I leave stuff (food!) in the car and collect at lunch time or do I need to carry it with me?)

Not long now bounce

8ish would be good, the queues to get in will be growing by 9.00

I prefer the 300' mark as you can see what is going on at the start line and see the top end too, but then my eyesight may not be as good as yours maybe. The car park is within the facility and is not too far to walk to (especially if you spectate from the banking on the right hand side of the strip). As you will want to experience the pits (on the left hand side) I would suggest you leave your food etc in your car.

Edited to add: 18 breakouts out of 37 cars in Pro ET, wow!

I'm taking some newbies this weekend and they're wanting a first hand experience of the fuellers warming up. We're getting there early saturday morning so what time would it be best to be in the pits?

you wont be able to miss it.......lol

I make it 16 nitro blown racers (4 wheels) (TF/AAFC/AAFA) and 16 TMD/TMFC (with a couple of injected nitro cars just to confuse you)

get some ear defenders for the younger ones at least
