Have you met any racers by accident away from the race venues?

I found Terry Revill (bike+Kopeck funny car) working in his unit near Thame, and Sam Connell came out of his place of work when he saw me wearing a drag racing tee-shirt to speak to me.....(where? clue - wooden chassis cars+V8's and spring water)..

Wandered into Art Chrismans shop in 2000, spent 2 hours going round and looking at the projects, chatting with the man himself with 'The Hustler' sat in the corner!!

My mate, who was into rods but not really into drag racing said to him - 'So, how long have you been in this game then?'
You can imagine the laughter from the rest of us!!

JC, I was trying to be funny, but obviously I'm being too obscure getmecoat

BTW, the answer is wooden chassised cars, V8's, Spring Water - M*lv*rn

Pirate theme is a rum that links to the name of the car....

Jan Magnusson at Atlanta airport last march (the weekend before Sebring) and Ralf Firman (post Jordan days) at a tube stop in West London a couple of years back.

Damon Hill was wondering around Brands Hatch at the DTM weekend last week, but that's not really that out of context......

How did I end up in the Drag Racing forum????? Apologies for the mis-post. As you were.....

A few days after starting a new job, word got around I was into dragracing & somebody said a guy in the paint shop used to race a drag bike, used to go 230 mph ! oh yeah I thought , in his mind maybe. A few days later somebody else mentioned the guy in the paint shop, yeah he said used to ride some monster bike called Imperial Wizard, had I heard of it ? yikes

In conversation with Brian this morning about the weekends racing he mentioned how the T/F bikes are only about 2mph faster than he was going 8 years ago, perhaps he should come out of retirement I said, "perhaps I should" he said , "I think I could still show them a thing or two"

YES YES YES!

Get Brian out, I loved watching that machine fly. I really believed he was going to be in the 5's tears ago, I'd LOVE to see what he could do now.

Back on topic I pumped into Ian Marshall, Darren Prentice and Knut Soderqvist at Stansted airport a few years back but we were flying to Mantorp :-)

When I was a teenager (just a handful of years ago....) I was at Silverstone for the International Trophy, which was a Formula 1 non-championship race, at the time. I squeezed into the massive crowd around the Lotus pit and managed to shuffle towards the front. A sprightly Murray Walker was interviewing Mario Andretti and the great Ronnie Peterson (on the track P/A) at the time and after a while, he turned to us and said "Now, does anyone have any questions?". The crowd took 4 steps back.... except one cheery fan, who stood his ground.... and the best question I could think of was "Mario, how are you going to win the World Championship with someone like Ronnie as your team mate?" ... (huge roar of laughter)

Mario gave a gracious reply and confided that basically he was no 1, Ronnie was no 2 and he will have priority when it counted.

He got that and won the Championship, but sadly Ronnie died as the result of a fiery crash at Monza.

Ever so slightly off topic - "away from the track" - Ahem... We were though! About 45 feet...
