Superb idea, make the bank nice and muddy.....Genius!
it usually is anyway....i didnt mean a deluge of biblical proportions, its called dust suppresion....
they could regrass the end of the bank and close it off for a year
mind you, isnt that end earmarked for grandstands soon(ish)?

Hope not!
Tried the grandstands on Sunday and gave up on them after 15 minutes of not seeing the end of a single race or even the ETS & MPHs - saw mexican waves of people up out of their crammed seats to follow the cars from half track - then half-turning in the cramped conditions to find their springloaded seats to lower them again - but not much of what we'd paid for. You have to go with it and hope to see something through the gaps, I wonder if anyone actually sees anything.
Good for the startline action, b
ks for the full race, getting the numbers and even convenient ergonomics!
Went to the fencing at the front of the stands to be told by a steward that we had return to our seats as we were spoiling other peoples views! Replied that if that was his job he should tell everyone not to rise out of their seats at the same time ie during a race. He declined to engage any further, we returned to the banks.
Never again.
Much as I rate Santa Pod and continue to have a great time there it definitely seems like the spectating access gets subtly eroded more and more.

Totally agree, it would be a great shame to loose any of the bank, if they want to squeeze in more spectators make the bank bigger. Then again that doesn't bring in more revenue in grandstand ticket sales.
Also bring back the barn, not my first choice of viewing area but certainly a different view, and gives you some appreciation of just how straight the cars and bikes don't run.

FAIL!
Please, no more talking about the barn. I really thought that everything that could ever be said on that topic had been said.
As for the grandstands I don't see why people pay good money for a seat then stand up. If everyone stays seated the grandstands work, if you want to stand up go to the bank. I prefer the bank anyway, far better environment (and have you ever tried taking a pushchair in a grandstand?)
Oh and if you think the dust at Santa Pod was bad you should see the state of the course marshals at Silverstone after a dry day.

The bank has grown over recent years from what I recall, the only subtle erosion of it is people walking to the bar/toilets/car park and back.Yes, the pitside viewing opportunities (apart from the grandstand) have shrunk a bit recently but that is primarily as they try to fit more cars in the bike so there is more to watch. Yes, the big speakers, generators and bins in the old fire up row do block the view from behind the catering vans but that was never a good viewing area anyway (especially after watching Venon crash).

I just remember not so long ago when it wasn't such a struggle to get a decent view of the track from wherever you were, in the pits, on the bankside or behind the startline.
Some but not all the grandstand seats have the desired view of start/middle/numbers boards so it creates a domino effect of people up and down out of their seats. Not worth it when it's busy. Better freedom of movement, view and atmosphere on the bank in our opinion.

Sorry I'm new on here, didn't realise the barn had been discussed to death. I assume I'm not alone in my opinion.
The barn became a bit of a running theme on here for a while, it was great but the place has moved on. There are many who share your views but hopefully now everyone has accepted it.Time Machine said:

so that leaves the banking.....take it or leave it seems to be the general attitude
