Has anyone got any experience of Filling the a block or half filling a block to increases the strength, supports the mains and cylinders.

I guess the side effects are possible higher oil temps and less water in the cooling system.

Before you do that.... which fuel do you plan to use? If you are planning to race this motor, in which class? Why are you considering this?

HKS Series at POD, we are looking to take a 2ltr 4g63 motor to well over 1000bhp.

We normally run SUNOCO 260GT PLUS (109RON, 99MON and 4.5% oxygen) - Unleaded

Sorry Richard, that's well outside of my experience. I'm also sorry if this is "sucking eggs" time but it's as well to establish the fundamentals.

Block filler is used to adhere the inner and outer jackets of the block together in order to reduce any flexing. Highly stressed blocks are deemed to profit from the reinforcing characteristics of filler.

Most people used to run Methanol with filled blocks (is that still the case? not sure) in order to keep the rate of temperature increase under some control by running rich when required.

Index/bracket racing requires the car to be predictable in ET, the coolant in the motor ensures the temperature can be controlled and evenly distributed so that it will produce the same output every time. Motor temperature variations would be a killer for index/bracket racing.

If you have no cooling, you run the risk of your opponent burning you down by hanging around at the start. Gasoline based fuels are the worst case for this.

Filled blocks/heads get hot around the combustion chambers and, without coolant, there is no way of distributing the heat around. An engine with simulataneous very hot and cool spots is not healthy - goes the theory. Different parts of the motor will be expanding at different rates which, some say, completely defeats the object of filling the block in the first place.

You pays yer money......

Richard I am also planning a 4g motor for my drag car and was considering this too. From what ive learnt from US 4g tuners half filling (up to the bottom of the core plugs)dont have any problems in 8 sec cars. If youre not already planning to, get the block acid dipped before block fill to ensure good adhesion. As a guess i would think youll run an external oil cooler so temps should be kept in check that way.
As a side note im not aware of Norris using block fill unless he has recently so maybe its overkill? Good insurance tho
