Cory McClenathan in FIA ??? That would be a coup, Shoe allegedly firing him because of his age must be a hard pill to swallow for Mac but driving those long pointy fuel cars and Funny cars is a young man's game I think. Or how about they get Bradford in there, he could drive and commentate at the same time biggrin

Do you think the guy on the right of that picture (on ED) is thinking 'Gee whizz, Is that really the famous Per Andersson?'

Agreed Tet, old Greek's a legend for sure but I doubt even he could do the full NHRA tour could he ? Oh-my-God g's on his body at the hit and 5-6 -ve g's on his old mince pies at t'other end, upto 8 times in a weekend for 23-24 races ? Pro T/F pilot in NHRA...nah I still reckon it's a young man's game mate.

Maybe he could do the full tour, maybe not. But it's worth remembering that The Greek is an extreme. You can find plenty of other examples in the NHRA where you don't need to be young. John Force is 14 years older than Cory Mac, but still manages to do the full tour every year, and you can hardly claim he's just there to make up the numbers...

I'm not disputing that, and I'm not trying to turn this into a pissing match. And of course I agree that younger drivers are probably going to have better reactions, and will be better suited to cope with the forces involved in nitro racing. But I do think that age is far less relevant in drag racing that in other forms of motorsport, and I'd certainly say that Cory Mac at 47 is comfortably under the age where it becomes a problem. Clearly Don disagrees, and I guess he knows what he's talking about. But I'm not sure coming within 2% of Tony Schumacher's points and within 5% of Larry Dixon's championship winning points score can be considered a bad season. Ho hum.

I think you will find that it wasnt DS's decision Fram wanted a younger driver for marketing reasons and they pay for the car, so dons hands were tied,

I would have thought that the armchair enthusiasts would have worked out exactly who will be attempting to line themselves up for the Andersen drive. There are so many good lads (and gals) with their hands on a bunch of the "ready salted" - at least sufficient to cover what The Andersens' need; I mean - it's pretty obvious isn't it?

It's either Black Stig

OR

A past racer and champion - not a "Past It" racer!!! http://www.topnitro.co.uk/05-thunderball/Gallery/html/IMG_5811.htm

I just realised that this is my first post for over a year.... How boring!

Reply: What about Chris Karamizines? Hes 82 and has run similar Incrementals to Andy Carter over 1000ft. 82 years young. Seen him race at pomona and hes as good as anyone. 3.88 @309mph.

Dont like the way drag racing is going. Bring back Big Daddy and Peter Crane!!!!!!!

I wish! But if I don't have the funds to race my own car this year, I certainly don't have the funds to be hiring a drive from the Andersens. Although Per did mention he was surprised to see me in a race suit when he saw me driving a dragster a few years back, so I'm clearly on his radar, and my glorious nitro fuelled destiny awaits me :-)

Yeah, that would make sense. I don't like the decision, but ultimately, money talks.

Easy now, next there'll be calls to bring back the playpen, the bike rollers, the bloomin' Barn, turf the pits at SPR, rip out the flushing toilets and showers, move the bleachers at Shakey to the other side of the track etc. biggrin
