S2000 to DC5

So I think I need some advice, been looking at DC5s for a little while now as ive never really quite fallen for my S2000. I had a DC2 before which I loved but I was doing high mileage at the time and I thought the S2000 might be a better daily. It actually wasn't alot better comfort / economy wise but I've not really had to get my hands dirty which has been nice.

So I have looked at two DC5s so far and have come away a bit unsure, both cars seemed to drive ok but they didn't really excite me as much as I hoped, I know they need to be driven at 10/10ths to come alive but at the moment I only want one for practical reasons!

I went out for a little hoon last night and I really enjoyed it, I think I would miss RWD alot if I made the swap. Wondering if I just spend some money and sort the little niggles on my car I would be alot happier?

Anyone had experience of both? Any thoughts?

I don't have any experience of an S2000, so cant answer your question sorry.
But if you're seriously looking at DC5s, sign up to itr-dc5.com. It's a nice forum with lots of great advice.
Not trying to put you off, but there's a few rough ones about. Also double and triple check the mileage - check if odometer has been converted or not. If the speedo counts in mph, the odometer will also be counting miles (dont let anybody tell you any different - even dealers are guilty of this).

I dont think a teg will be more refined though..

What kind of niggles are they? If you do decide to sell - message me the car's details?

Anyway; the DC5 ITR is the best handling FWD car I've ever driven! (Not tried a DC2) A friend at work has one; I've driven it and couldn't tell it was FWD from the way it handled. It's a VTEC though so yes, you have to wring it's neck - but you're used to that with your S2k? If that's not what you want to be doing - stay away from the VTECs.

Thanks for the pointers, i have been looking on the dc5 forum alot, one of the cars i viewed was a members from there. The other one was at a well regarded importer which unfortunately was pretty tatty. Both of them drove pretty well though to be fair.

Dont get me wrong i love VTEC! Maybe i was expecting to much from a short test drive.

I say niggles, i need to get the geo sorted which i know is going be a nightmare!

Good, some of the best examples are on that forum IMO. Plus you can search the cars history to an extent, via the user's posts.
Had my DC5 for 5 and half years, still love it!

I test-drove 2 DC5s after my first DC2, and felt the same as you - it never 'gelled' with me in the same way, was a lot stiffer, and hunted road camber/truck ruts rather badly. Steering was artificial-heavy, too, which put me off.

I went back to a 2nd DC2 and kept my S2000, and that was the best of both worlds, but that was 6 years ago nearly, when the DC2 was newer...

I'm lucky enough to own both an S2k and a DC5. They are so different. Both a lot of fun in different ways. I think if I had to sell one, the S2000 would go.
