LOOKING TO GET MY FIRST S2000 conv

excuse the poss repeat from earlier forums. we are looking to get another sports for the summer, wife want the xk and I fancy a s2000 , couple questions if we may. Any disadvantage getting an import, any main issues to watch out for looking for around a 02-05 car. Insurance >> my current no claims is on my business van, I usually get a classic ins on the xks so not an issue but the s2000 is not that easy I believe. Im 59 no cons or claims any suggestions who is best . Any info is appreciated even if someone knows of a car, pref private and south of the country. thanks all
I have just got a S2000 and they are fantastic cars, I had one a couple of years back and initially I wasn't sure due to the power delivery but after having another turbo that did nothing for me I have gone back to the S2000, and love it.
Jap imports tend to need 98RON fuel, I don't know if 95 will do any damage
not sure again but if it was imported after 2006 it might come under the road tax changes so more expensive
I do know they have a bit more power but doubt it will be noticeable
I wouldn't buy an import unless it was much cheaper than a UK spec/mileage of the same year or newer.
Basically if I seen two 2002 models one jap one Uk at the same price I would go for the UK one.
If you are asking then most other people will and so probably making it that bit harder to sell on.

They're all convertibles
Was it imported in 2005, or is it a model year 2005, and then when was it imported? Pretty big difference. I personally prefer the post facelift (2004 onwards) which is why I bought one, they command more money over an equal car that is pre-facelift. 5800 sounds okay if it is a 05/55 plate, hpi clear and history

What are the reasons for avoiding imports? Do you even know the difference. In the past, I have sought out imports over UKDM cars as they are BETTER than the UK versions. In the case of the S2k, it's a bit much of a muchness - I prefer the JDM bunpers, and lack of head light washers - I don't like the seats and dash. Or the insurance hike, which is a big difference when it comes to already pricey S2000 insurance.

I could get a cat d year 04 with history for the same price of a year 00 import without history.

apparantly the car that im looking at the 05 plate was built in 05 and was an import from germany, not sure if this is still classed as same from japan import. been told its a uk spec car, all seems a bit confusing to me, as to what is or isnt an import can some one explain in simple term am i being thick or is the seller just trying it on. any thing in the v5 that will stste import thanks all again
A euro import is treated as a UK car by insurance companies as far as I can gather.
I would have thought it would have a slightly lower value than a UK car but it's worth what anyone wants to pay.
The service book if original will have the original stamp of where it came from.
Not sure in what differences are over UK supplied cars, I know earlier euros didn't have a factory alarm, UK ones did.
Could still be a good buy

If not brought into uk straight away it could have been someone in the forces over there.
The main thing is, if the car is right.
I think we do tend to think the worst of things.
In the past few years i have bought and paid for cars, motorhomes without seeing them and they have been good buys.
