Just like it says on the tin really, have become increasingly interested in the 2000 because of the bullet proof engine and power roof etc.... are they on par with the elise handling and speed wise though ???
any opinions would be gratefully recieved .. oh by the way the 111s is 40bhp more than the standard elise

yep.. the two very same cars I'm considering....

the 111S can be had with aircon too, which makes these two cars surprisingly comparable..

elise is obviously purer, handles better, much rarer sight on the roads, but the S2k has 80bhp on it, and more comfy for the long trip to the 'Ring, and more storage space....

anybody owned both?

There's a few people owned both on www.s2ki.co.uk and I think they would say something similar

I think the general consensus is that the Elise has the edge on the fun things - especially handling, and that slightly closer to the road feeling.

The S2000 is far more practical, much more of an everyday car. The powered roof is a joy, the boot space is surprising (big enough for 2 to travel around Europe for 2 weeks AND bring back some shopping!). And as you wrote, the reliability is legendary.

As AquilaEagle suggests, get over to www.s2ki.co.uk for some friendly help.

It really depends on your needs and wishes, but you won't go wrong with the Honda

I was trying to find a thread for you as I know that Kelk did a comparison on s2ki (he went from having S2000 for about 4 years to an Elise this year). He can't find his write up but he'd be quite happy to chat to you about the differences if you wanted to contact him on S2k.

I considered both and found that the cockpit of the Lotus was just too small. I'm 6'2" and there was no conceivable way I would have fitted in the car other than driving along with my head out of the top. So I cant really comment much on the Lotus, but the S2K handles precisely with a racing feel to it, very quick steering and fantastic short shift gearbox, even before you get to the demonic engine.

Whatever you do drive both

After having an Accord Type-R I had this exact problem in May, S2000, 350z, z4 or 111r...

I went for the 111r for it's rareness, raw and very focused drivability and the fact the it sounds and looks very sexxy!!! The s2k was a close second tho!!!

He's in a 111R though isn't he? BadaBing's is definitely swifter in a straight line and takes roundabouts like they don't exist.

That sums it up nicely!

Not driven an Elise, but did drive a VX220 (which is pretty comparable to an S2 111S, perhaps marginally off at the top-end), and from a driving 'fun' perspective the VX was clearly better - a LOT more involving, so much feedback and poise. That said, it felt more cramped (narrow around the elbows with a passenger), less practical in-cabin and boot-wise, and didn't feel as well built or sound as good.

So I got the S2000...and it's very good, very competent, does everything well (whereas the VX/Elise do 'driving' spectacularly, but compromise elsewhere). Steering feel is my only real gripe about the driving experience (don't feel like pushing to 10/10ths), and rear-end break-away I need to learn...think it's me as much as the car, but lack of feedback doesn't help. So I'm going to order some cross-braces as I'm told they improve things noticeably.

thanks for the replys.. considering all that has been said I'm going for the lotus as boot space etc don't really come into it as I already have a van for 'rainy days' I could always swap to the s2k if i get bored of being bumped around in the elise me thinks
