Forgive me for asking, but I can't seem to find anything via the search for what I want!

So, what's the difference between the 2 DC2s? I know the headlights are different, but not sure on anything else.

Is it the case, as with the MX-5s that the imports have less of a concern about rust? Or is that not an issue with the Teg?

I think the rear arches rust on both import and ukdm cars!

I think the only major mechanical difference is the exhaust manifold which helps give the import cars a slightly higher power output although I suspect being tested on the higher octane jap fuel would have been where most of the additional few hp comes from.

The wheels are different and I also seam to remember that the brakes on the early import cars are smaller.

might be worth having a look on ww.itr-dc2.com, I expect it's been well covered.

covered several times on itr-dc2.com - in summary there are 3 main variants you'll find in this country, and 2 rare ones:-
- UKDM - twin round lights, 15" rims, big brakes
- JDM '96 - strip-headlights, 15" rims, small brakes
- JDM '98 - strip-headlights, 16" rims, big brakes

...and if you're very lucky:-
- JDM 4-door DB8-series (96-spec, not sure if upgraded to 98-spec ever)
- JDM '98 Type-Rx - as '98 plus folding mirrors and a couple of other 'luxuries'. Could be had in yellow as well, I believe.


The JDM engine DOES develop more power (197bhp on 100RON (!), vs 187bhp on '97RON) and more torque, but IMHO it's not enough to worry about either way.

Brilliant, thanks for that. I'm sure it's one of those questions that must come up all the time.

So if I was looking to use one on the track a few times a year the '96 JDM would be best avoided due to the smaller brakes? Otherwise buy on condition and history as all other cars of that sort of age I guess...

Sounds about right...although a fair few '96s have had a/market alloys fitted and bigger-brake kits.

For track-use, you can get away with bigger rims, and aside from the brake-aspect they'll probably help with grip and turn-in precision on track, at the expense of ride quality when back on the road. Also need to be careful of unsprung weight...OE ones are pretty light.

The engines are completely identical in every way. It's the restrictive exhaust manifold on the UK model that chokes it down on power.

There are dozens of tiny little differences between all the various models.

The main differences worth noting for track use are the '96 specs smaller brakes, and the different gear ratios that model has also. 1-2-3 are longer due to a different final drive ratio.

But the jdm 98 is suppose to be better

The biggest difference is insurance,only a few insure Jap cars.And it cost more ! But its well worth getting a Jap car.

With parts being interchangeable combined with the cars age they're not really any different.

UK version looks better imho with the round lights. Special car imho and we had one for a few years in the early 2000's.
