The best app I have found to date is Harrys Lap Timer - it is avaialable through the app store, and is constnatly improved/updated. The link is here: http://www.gps-laptimer.de/Home.html

In addition here is a video of me at the ring this year using the app and iphone to film. http://www.gps-laptimer.de/Home.html

I can't recommend this app enough!!

Last version of Dynolicious was limited in using only the G-meter, not GPS, so whenever the car is not perfectly level the results will not be right.

There is one that takes a video as it times the lap from gps - it also sucks in engine data from an obd2 dongle...

the android version of this is call aLapRecorder...forget what the iphone version was called

Whatever you use it will be inaccurate as iPhone only has 5hz gps, but luckily your times will be quicker rather than slower smile

Those with Harrys lap timer do you just load track and press video?

Will it then do it's own thing? Does it do one long recording or a lap at a time? Then to overlay can you just press overlay on iPhone and it will do it on iPhone?

Yes effectively. You can donwload a track from an ever increasing database. You then press record from within the lap and it will kick off the recording automatically. Once done you then overlay the track data onto the video - again all within app and very straight forward.

To earlier comments: granted any iphone applicattion is going to be less accurate than a dedicated system but lets face it also a fraction of the cost, and to that end perfectly good for a novice track day goer. As i understand this app is upgradeable so you can get cables to plug it into the obd to read RPM etc straight off the onboard computer, it also accepts a connection to external GPS units, and I would expect that will increase accuracy.

I am only an occasional track day enthusiast and this is perfect for my needs.
