Tyre, Fule usage

Hi all

Hopefully taking my Golf VR6 to Llandow soon, the tyres are about 4mm depth, how much would you expect them to ware out?

Also how much petrol do you use on a track day, Is a full tank enough to turn up with?

First timer driving, could be wet, could be dry track.

4mm should be fine for a safe return home - but keep an eye on them throughout the day.

Personally I'd never get near a full tank on a track day, simply because I don't want to abuse my car for that long.

Anyway, how were you going to take more than 1 tank?

I'd imagine, given he says he's a first timer, that OP think there will be pumps at the track. I've never been on a track day, but I have heard people mention the extortionate trackside petrol prices, so I'd have thought the same.

When I was at Brands Hatch I used just under 60 litres for the whole day; about 130 miles of track time.

It’s 2.9 VR6 (Corrado, 70 litre tank) so pretty similar to yours.

Best to check this, and also whether the pumps are only open at limited times. We missed the window at Cadwell by 5 mins and had to drive to the nearest town to find some car juice.

ETA: Obviously it depends how you drive/what car/what size fuel tank but every track I've been at in the 5 I've had to top up half way through the day.

no fuel at llandow but petrol station is not too far away.

very tight and twisty track so I'd keep a close eye on your front tyres. They will be wearing at quite a rate if its dry. Especially the inside edges due to wheelspin if you're not careful.

So just under 10mpg? Pretty typical track day fuel consumption.

I'd suggest to the OP that they scope out where the nearest petrol station is, either before they get to track or at the lunch break, just in case. The briefing will likely mention where the nearest is anyway.

The car is not road legal and will be on a trailer so should'nt need to worry about the return home.

Was going to take the car nearly full of petrol and also a few g/jerry cans, so would be more than a full tank in total.

Good idea about nipping out to get petrol at lunch time.
