The Ring and its problems

Well lads. I said I'd ask more experenced people. Me and a few BMW heads are heading over from Dublin to the Ring around the 5th of Nov. Anyway the issue I have is that my car is quite low, The issue is that I will need to get at least 2 ferries ( Dublin-Holyhead) and ( Hull-Rotterdam) and back. I'll try load a pic. I mean its not that massive low but coilover low if you get me. I'm sure people lower than me have gone and got on well. Will I be able to get on/off the ferry ? thanks a mill lads

They have planks etc for getting low cars on, but you may need to tell them in advance.

Watch out in damp cold conditions though!

They usually put low cars on the lower decks with the HGVs.

I don't think you'll have any issues boarding the ferries, took my Chimaera out to the ring last week, had no boarding problems either way. If its your first time at the ring be very aware of the other cars around you. I was amazed at the speed differential, i drove for ages on the mirrors so as not to get tail ended! Thankfully i was on a track day so no unexpected slow vehicles on track, the day before i saw a discovery 3 being driven around like it was on a sunday afternoon jaunt!
Best advice, drive within your limits and enjoy the drive home!

Make sure they do this, Last time I took my e36 M3 on a ferry they refused to let me on the lower deck and it sounded like I was going to take the bottom off the car at the top of the ramp to the upper deck

This has nothing to do with the Ring at all!

You'll have no problems - has cars plenty lower than yours adn never had to use boarding planks you'll be fine... if you put your hazards on and they assess your car has minimal clearance then they let you on the lower deck

Cant speak for Irish Sea ferry, but NSF are really good about this. Speak to the first person you see arranging the cars ready for boarding and tell them of your concerns and they will look after you. Youll end up on the lower deck with the lorries.

Only other thing is there may be slopes as you get onto the ferry depending on the height of the tide. Drive diagonally if you are concerned as that helps keep max clearance.

ive been on NSF countless times with a Daimler dart which has less than 2" clearance in places and the crew have been superb.

I live in Cork and have brought a 997 GT3 on all the Ferries to/from Ireland. It helps if you kinda approach the uneven bits one wheel the the other if you know what I mean.

Enjoy your trip, take it easy, especially watch out for faster cars overtaking you and BE GLUED TO THE RIGHTHAND SIDE of the track. Dont attempt to straightline corners where a car behind could hit you. Most of our Irish Insurance Policies do not exclude the Ring.

Yep I drive sideways over everything already. The car itself is not that low around. Its just the gearbox sits low and so does the front of the skirts. I will ask before hand anyway and let them know. I rang Quinn today and I am covered for the EU. But only breakdown in the UK !!!! I must look into an alternative. Yes I'll be like a nun going around. I'm only really doing it to see the place and the roadtrip along with it. I'm just a bit afraid of the weather now. Wish us luck
