When you're getting noise tested if you have twin exhausts I would imagine they put the decibel meter between both of the tail pipes. I've just been wondering what would they do if you turned up in a car with a side exit exhaust on both sides of the car such as the SLR?

AFAIK, noise testing is usually done from one or both of the individual exhausts with the higher reading to count if both are measured.

I wonder if that would fare worse for the drive-by noise test?

Last time I was at Donington, there were men with meters and clip boards
dressed in bright orange (like marshalls), standing at various places around the circuit.

My theory to it was if you have side exit exhausts on both sides, wouldn't the noise be halved on each test of each pipe?

Unless I'm barking up the wrong tree of course, which is entirely possible!

Usually done just drivers side, but known to have both sides checked when near limit

So get around noise regs, have 6 exhausts exiting the car all over the shop smile
