I have Impreza GT MY00 with 280.000 km on clock as my everyday car since new - no tuning or upgrade. My idea was to get rid of it (getting pretty rusty, but mechanically quite fine - except of brakes) and buy a new car for everyday use plus some weekend toy (lightweight kind of elise, cat, etc..). Friend advised me to keep this Impreza and to invest in it to have it for track days and maybe some amateur sprint/slalom/rally racing. any advice if it is worth of it - costs, usability (weight) tyres and brake pad consumption? thanks for help.

I know of one or two that have built a scoob for the track and its something that i plan to do with mine at some point in the future. I have also owned mine since new and i can't see myself parting with such a good car!

However, the costs of running a scoob as a track car do seem to be higher than many other cars just down to the cost of parts etc. One lad i know was running a pug 205 Gti then switched to a scoob only to switch back to a pug due to costs and ease of working on the car itself.

Personnally i say go for it but it would be a labour of love more than many other track cars would be.

I use my classic impreza for trackdays and its a great car on track, not as bad on consumables as some people on here will lead you to believe, biggest hit of course is the fuel bill but a small price to pay for the grin factor smile

thanks paul,

have you any changes on your Impreza which you recomend (dampers, wheels etc..) to get more fun with it?

The car is entirely standard apart from a full decat exhaust and bluestuff pads. I think you at least need some decent pads for the track and the bluestuff are well up to the job. To be honest the car could do with some suspension upgrades as the Imprezas do tend to understeer when pushed so thats next on the list.

I use a classic Scooby for track days, and have always found it to be a great car for it smile

Uprated Whiteline rear antiroll bar is one of the best mods I've made - really helps with the understeer

I used to run a version 2 STI on trackdays. I had Alcon/Prodrive brakes on it which were amazing. other than that it was standard apart from the whiteline ARB and bump steer kit which made the turn in a lot better. I would recommend going for stiffer suspension as mine did roll a lot and would wear through tyres very quickly because of it.
