Palmersport day - onboard footage

anyone here done a palmersport day recently? i plan to do the half day formula day - they said due to their agreement with whoever provided them the cameras for the onboard footage you can take back home with you - you can't use your own camera.
its a bit annoying, as i have a 1080p helmet cam, and it would be awesome to play back the footage. Seems a bit odd that you can't even have your own helmet cam switched on, for your own personal use afterwards....
also the onboard footage is of very poor quality, both audio and video - thats going by the footage i've seen on youtube of peoples uploads of their day.
on all of them, it seems, they stick the secondary camera footage overlaying the primary, and it overlaps over your steering - so you can't even see your steering inputs!
i mean - what a load of rubbish, really ill thought out - does anyone here have any knowledge of the palmersport video agreements or something? just seems really odd that the sales guy said i wouldnt be allowed to use my pov helmet camera.

They invested in video systems for one reason only - to make some additional profit. Once that happens, of course they won't allow you to take your own video (whether you have decided not to buy theirs or not).
Yes, it's poor quality and they could have installed much better systems at the time, but they went with the one which gave them the best return on their investment.
It gives an insight into what Palmer and his company is all about. You pay for absolutely everything and he maximises his profits wherever he can. It's a business and he's a ruthless businessman.

Included. You are given a USB stick which is plugged into the on-board systems of the cars. Mine actually only worked on the Caterhams, Le Mans style car, single seater & M3. As mentioned above, the helmets all have intercom and you get a one from each of the track side hospitality units that hosts each event.

Videos are pretty good if you ask me. Done the day loads and wouldnt ever wanna be dicking about with my own camera to be honest.
Just want to enjoy the day and the driving and be paying full attention.
'Ill thought out' is NOT something you will be thinking after you have done the day.
Its super slick and very professional.
I can understand why they don't want you to have own camera and I think you will as well after you have done it.
Here are few reasons I can think of for starters.
They want you paying full attention, not faffing with a camera.
They need you in and out of cars pretty quick as they run on tight schedule and so someone playing around setting up a camera is just gonna slow things down.
They want full control of footage. Any footage of an accident will be wiped for example. Don't worry... you get all your spins still!
The saftey aspect of people using their own cameras and mounts, cameras coming loose etc etc.
All the helmets you use are palmers ones as they have intercoms.
Its NOT about money. As they dont charge for their own vids. You get them on a nice 2gig reusable stick for free.
I know YOU would have proper cam mount and not faff and pay full attention
BUT there are some proper wallys (me for example!)

The cost of the day has hardly changed over the years and its just got better and better.
He keeps updating and adding more things like the videos to keep the event fresh and up to date and give regular customers something new.
They use Racelogic video vbox stuff I think. What could they have installed that was much better? The quality of most of the data logging video stuff is normally worse than stand alone videos in my experience anyway. My AIM smartycam with GPS and data overlay is pretty poor quality video compared with my GoproHD. Despite the fact the AIM is 3 times the cost.
Whats Palmer done to piss you off so much out of interest?
