Daily Driver on Track

Do you use your daily driver on track?

I ask because my track day car wont be ready until sometime next year. However i'm getting the itch to do Llandow at the end of this month.

My daily driver is a standard 190bhp celica gen7, whats your thoughts on tracking it. Obviously I wont be hammering it non-stop as the brakes are standard. I also would'nt want to be a PITA to others on track.

Your thoughts?

I use the OHs daily driver on track.

(Or as I like to point out, She uses my Track car on a daily basis...)

But. I'm also aware that I have enough cash to replace the daily car within a few days should I destroy it. (Low value car, not high value account!)

Just keep an eye on things through out the day..

AND buy stuff before hand that might wear out like brake pads or discs or even tyres if old.

Would I need pads for one day, theres a good bit left on mine? Tyres are about 4mm-5mm?

Quite possibly yes.

My last day used a set of standard fronts that only had 10,000 road miles on them....

From my experience unlikely, I usually go through 7-8 tracks on a set of pads and a bit less for the tyres.

I had a E28 BMW 525e auto for 4 years. First two track day stock car and it was slow and fun -cheap tyres lasted though.
The third one was with a engine upgrade and manual box and 225/50R16 with very good tyres and that was a bit quicker and fun but I did glaze the discs, break the drivers seat and shear a wheel stud that nearly caused the wheel to fall of.

The fourth one was with an a brake upgrade and I couldn't cook those.

So it depends on how you drive. Everything maybe fine but a trackday will highlight any weakness quickly.

Depends what car it is and what pads. My Audi S3 eats pads on track. I reckon on about 3 to 4 days and they are finished. Difficult to comment on tyres, if it is a dry day and you stay out a bit, you can seriously hurt tyres, particularly front nearside (on most circuits).

MTFU and just do it. If your car is in a reasonable state of service and you keep on top of tyre condition and pressures, it needn't take any toll on your car. Make sure it's had brake fluid recently and bear in mind it's standard and you'll be fine.
Re: obstructing other drivers- just keep an eye on your mirrors and know the rules.

I have done it before, just don't think about breaking it and not being able to get to work the next day and you'll be fine.....

I don't use my daily, but my weekend car is used as a track car... Relatively speaking for a track car it's a big heavy thing and therefore costs a lot to run. I have done 4 this year and have got through 2 sets of tyres and a full set of pads... The clutch needs replacing and I dare say the rubbing sound from the rear on the way home from Woodbrige yesterday was a wheel bearing failing...
