Helmet Cameras - advice please

Hi all, sorry if this has come up before - I couldn't find anything relevant in the search, and I hope this is in the best place.

I am looking to purchase a helmet-mounted camera for mainly karting, but also on trackdays, so I'm asking for advice on any good quality (pref HD, not essential though), value for money cameras on the market. The obvious choice would be a GoPro of some sort; however I don't think my budget would allow, and also I think I would prefer a bullet-style cam if possible. Examples of some I have come across so far -

Motrax MiniCam, £45
Mini DVR III Camera, £106
CamSports HDS - 720p Action Camera, £195

I am initially drawn to the last one, has anybody used this? Would wind noise be an issue when used for karting? Also, please could someone enlighten me with regards to the best way to mount the camera on the helmet - velcro/ sticky pad?

Any advice/ experiences/ suggestions would be gratefully received.

Last TD I was on specified fixed, on vehicle, mounts only in the briefings - not sure whether this is a track or TDO restriction though.

Oh ok, tbh I wouldn't be surprised if hemlet cams aren't allowed for trackdays (tracks or TDOs). It's mainly for karting purposes.

I use a Go Pro hero as a helmet cam. Does a great job, keep the mic on hi and you pick up all the noises, even your own expletifs

Thanks for your time in replying - the videos do look good, and wind noise isn't intrusive. I presume it's not HD (or is there an on/off setting on your cam?).

If you get the GoPro HD Hero it is, they've also just brought out an updated version of it called (unsurprisingly) the GoPro HD Hero 2.

The reason I like mine so much is that you can use it for anything, it's waterproof and seriously tough, so I've taken mine Coasteering, white water rafting, zip-lining, quad biking and use mine on the bike.

Love my Gopro used it in our Ford GT GT3, radicals, my car, my bike, rc plane, underwater with the dog swimming, wildlife bits, dicking around on our pit quad around race circuits racing each other. It's been battered, next to a exhaust for 2 and a half hours too hot to touch but wasn't fussed.
Can't fault it. Worth every penny

No it's not HD, just plain hero as apposed hero HD not really sure it's needed for laptop/pc. I guess it's personal preference. Although the hero is in your price range

I can 2nd that. was filming with a certain video presenter in Germany a few years back, I had my Go-pro suckered on to the side of a car, on a longer mount so that it stuck out a bit more, after a few side ways runs through the corner we were using, the driver got a little too close to the road markers that lined the inside of the corner, and the Go-Pro that was sticking out got wiped out by the bollard. The camera took a serious enough hit for the case to break & the camera to come out. The camera was absolutely fine though as the case had done its job, stuck the SD card into a laptop to see what had happened. it had recorded it all. Back in blighty replacement case order through Dogcam sport £30 ish. Hey presto back in business.

Definatly worth spending the extra cash on one or try eBay
