Hello,

Just bought my first track car, just a few bits for the MOT then I'll be ready to go, apart from insurance.

My Z3 coupe daily drive is with Adrian Flux, who are getting back to me with their quote.

Unsurprisingly compare the market didn't help - over £450 for a 3000 mile policy!

Anyone know of a company who can insure a modified car to and from the track for a decent price, I doubt i'll even do 3000 in a year.

Thanks

The list I use at renewal time is :

Competition Car Insurance 0844 8921966
REIS 0115 985 0165
Footman James 0843 3571937
Sky Insurance 03303 331250
Adrian Flux 0800 0818989
A-Plan 01635 874 646
Hertz Insurance (HIC) 0844 8884888
RH Specialists 01277 206911
Brentacre 01792 650 933
Motor Direct (A Plan) 01635 874 646
Performance Direct 0844 5733536
Hagerty 0844 8241134

Phone them all, the variation of prices can be quite astonishing. And the good quotes and bad quotes change each year. Happy phoning !

Also try green light as they will on top of your road policy cover you for track days for £50 a day.

I'd rather give up driving forever than use them again.

Have u checked that your z3 policy gives u 3rd party only and use that instead? Get it taxed by a local trader instead.

If I remember correctly Greenlight won't insure Saxo's (used to have one as a track car and used them for my scoob). Competitive rates though!

I was always under the impression that this only works as long as the car is insured by someone else as well...

The other issue being that "I think" DOC cover only extends to cars owned by other people and will not apply to cars owned by the policy holder.

Thats much easier to sort as a mate/family can be the owner.... but as far as I was aware, that person has to have it insured for you to drive it third party on your own fully comp policy.

I got a shock this year when CCI sent my renewal notice. Up from £500 to £750. +20% uplift and revised London weighting apparently (probably after last year's riots).

Thanks for the list of insurers.

Rather than tax, insure & MOT my track car, I decided to buy a good quality A-Frame and tow it there & back, no matter what happens at the track I can still get home... No road use also meant I could fit a de-cat pipe!

Competition Car Insurance have been best for me (inc 5 track days a year) but Sky Insurance are also good too.

If you use an A-Frame the car must still be insured, Tax'd and MOT'd I'm afraid.

When I looked into A-frames a few years ago it seemed they were legal only for recovery, not for towing. Not the kind of thing you're likely to get pulled up on but it'd be worth checking the legality
