Hi, I’m looking for some help with child friendly track days. I built a car (Mev Sonic7) with my son specifically to play with on the track but they all seem to have a minimum age for passengers as 16. He is only 11. We should have done an owners club track day at Curborough sprint track Saturday but I managed to lose the key (must have left it on the bumper whilst connecting trailer doh! )

I have looked at all the trackdays I can find (ie Brands, Silverstone, Castle Combe etc) but all say 16.
Must be others in the same situation with a son that wants to come along and ride in the car.

If anyone can point me in the direction of suitable days it would be really appreciated.
Many thanks

Stuart

'ring on a Tf day is all I could suggest.

If thats a risk you are happy with that is.

????

You need to be insured to be in the 'ring on a Tf day - and you could be liable for a whole host of things if something went wrong.

Balls of titanium required for that risk, I think.

No, it's a one way fixed toll road yet is excluded from insurance.

Just don't crash..... Simple.....

The 'Ring is covered by German traffic law, so you must have insurance.

This is what I thought.

Must have minimum third party insurance.

Thanks for the answers so far but not sure the “ring” is right for me or the car or the risk of taking my son around. Have a couple of road cars that would be good to take around it but not convinced the aerodynamics of the Sonic are ideal for a long high-speed track.

But.... will look at the “ring” for my 993 – just had the suspension and bushes replaced and it handles really well now.

What about any UK car clubs that may be doing family track days or smaller sprint tracks?
As said before, any help appreciated.. thx

some dangerous advice on here stemming from the ambiguity of the word "need".

you do not "need" insurance to drive on TF days in so much as they will not stop you at the barrier and ask you to produce a certificate. similarly, you do not "need" to have insurance to drive from your house TO the Nurburgring.

you are required by law to have insurance both for the journey over there AND to drive around the ring on TF days (not so for private hire track days there).

regardless of the meaning of the word "need", you would be stupid to drive the ring uninsured as accidents happen very regularly and third party claims become expensive very quickly. your insurer will probably be required by law to settle any claims against you, but you can bet they will pursue you for any such costs.

But back on topic to the OP - I have never heard of a TDO allowing under 16s out on track. I believe that there are insurance liability issues, but it may be perfectly logical fear over how they might potentially endanger themselves or others running around a busy pit lane.

Gerally speaking, under 16s aren't allowed in the pit lane at all. I think you're going to struggle tbh. The odd charity day will let children pax but they are few and far between.

The joy of the Child Protection Act.

Your best bet will be to see if you can rent an airfield for an hour or two.

Thanks guys.

I had a pm from CaptainCrash to contact “performance trackdays” and spoke with them today. They are ok for an 11 year old at Blyton Park which is fantastic news. So I will be at Blyton 22 September and for me only I have Castle Combe 6th August and Brands Hatch 30th August so it looks like I finally get some track days in.

French trackdays could be your answer; my son ( 13) passengered at Le Mans- there were several other kids out on track too.
