I live in Hampshire, and seem to have to travel 100 miles to go to any days... I know there is Brands Hatch and Goodwood, but there seem to be virtually no other tracks used for trackdays in the South?

Goodwood is very expensive and infrequent, and BH always seems to be the shorter Indy circuit, which means i have to travel the 300 mile round trip to the Midlands for decent days (Rockingham, Bedford, Silverstone, etc). Castle Combe is closer, but i struggle to comply witht their strick noise regulations...

Are there any tracks / days that im missing?

Bovingdon, Thruxton to name two? Abingdon and Silverstone aren't far away.

This might help? smile

Thanks, i tried that, but all there is in the south this month is:

Castle Combe Full circuit 4 Groups p/h 100 170.00
13 Aug 2012 Brands Hatch Indy circuit Open Pit Eve 98 129.00
30 Aug 2012 Brands Hatch Indy circuit Open Pit Eve 98 125.00
31 Aug 2012 Castle Combe Full circuit Open Pitlane 100 159.00
31 Aug 2012 Keevil

I just feel we are a little hard done by!
Silverstone is not too bad, but its got rather expensive.

Maybe I was thinking of Hullavington (both old CCF bases!). Early morning, not much sleep etc! biggrin

There are other venues in the Central section of that website?

You call Bedford & Silverstone decent as opposed to Brands Indy? Interesting...
Back to topic: Goodwood, Castle Combe, Thruxton - the problem is with the insane noise restrictions so consequently you don't get that many days.

I thought both Silverstone and Bedford (slightly less so) were fantastic. I did my first trackday at BH and remember being about disappointed in how short it was, But it was a while ago now so maybe my memory is clouded...
Is it a good track?
What about for a GT3?

Ha, who needs a track when you have the Highland passes! I have to make do with the A303...

Fair point. smile It's nice to at least have a choice of tracks though.

Croft is our next nearest 250miles away.

No trackdays at Thruxton due to draconian noise restrictions limiting the number of days of track use...

I've been trying to persuade the BMW CC to get a day there, but no luck so far...

BH GP does have quite a few days, albeit nowhere near the number on the Indy circuit...

Hi

We (The Odiham Car Club) are running a trackday on September 29th at the RAF Odiham base, how's that?

Like us on our Facebook page for updates and to find out when the places are coming up:
http://www.facebook.com/#!/OdihamCarClub

As with our last trackday it will be run in association with MSE - a great organisiation we are very pleased with.

We will be running a different track to the last one - the joys of a massive airfield wink

We were hoping to run 3 trackdays this year, the same as we ran 3 events last year, but the 2 other days were canned when the runway was put on hold incase it was needed for the Olympics.

Just to add, I am a civillian helping the RAF boys and girls organise, promote and run the days, all monies raised are for forces charities smile

Cheers

i live in somerset so have same issue. damn shame about thruxton[1hr away],90db strict limit and so basically looking at standard car and exhaust etc.
combe and couple of airfields within couple of hours but otherwise always an overnight job for me at typically 3 1/2 hours each way to a circuit.

mse seem to be keen on tighter layouts with relatively short straights but the day i did at odiham with rma a few years ago was an excellent layout and had a decent circuit feel to it.it was a complete loop meaning we were running full width of circuit/runway and had a fantastic long straight to really stretch your car and certainly closest you will get to maxing out.

i suspect mse will tone this down which i think is a shame as it then makes it no different to any other airfield type circuit.maybe odiham car club could ask them to run same layout as the rma one?

rgm racer - The last day we ran with MSE used a LOT of the runway, for the exact "maxing out" element you say, which was a real part of the fun. driving

I'm pretty damn sure we will do the same thing again wink We will be sorting the track layout soon, I'll keep you posted.

Once we are confirmed on prices etc, we (the car club) will start a new thread on the day biggrin gonna be a good one!!

Tom - Saw your post on FB, we'll be in touch soon.

Cheers

Ok Mike that sounds like it could be good then.Basically surface there is good and the layout RMA had meant you never went back on yourself as on a proper circuit. It also had loads of width so you could carry a lot of speed through some corners. It did also have a couple of slower coned chicanes thrown in.The MSE days I have done have had the width of the tracks coned off so you don't get the full width and there are cones the length of entire circuit. At Hullavington and Colerne I seem to remember the straights which were coned off too short imo also had cones running down middle so you went down one side and back passed on other. All in all a bit of fun but nothing like a decent circuit to drive and definitely not making the most of the space available which I think RMA did do at Odiham.
That said done several MSE days and have no issues at all with them generally as organisers.
Yes please do keep me posted, could well be up for thissmile
