Need to replace the tyres on my Abarth 500 Essesse size is 205/40 * 17.

Planning on doing the odd track day/sprint with a trip to the Le Mans Bugatti track and a late summer trip to the Nurburgring.

Don't want the phaff of another set of wheels/tyres so thought I'd ask for peoples views on the best tyre to be OK on the road and OK on the track.

Car only has light use as I commute to work on the train each day for my sins

Have had 888's in the past and driving home in the rain was not something I want to repeat ...

Federal SSR Evo's seem to be OK from what I've read but thought I'd pose the question.

If you don't want to go for a full trackday tyre such as 888, 048, etc, then Michelin Pilot Super Sports are about as good as they come imo.

595 RSRs are pretty good, but personally I'd just stick with a decent road tyre.

There are tyres with stiffer sidewalls, Bridgestones for example, but the level of grip wet or dry with the Michelins outweighs a bit more sidewall flex imo. We all have different tastes, however.

I would also recommend the Pilot SuperSport (use them on my Z4MC covering 20k+ miles a year, all year round, including 2 30-50 lap 'Ring trips a year), however I don't think they're available in 17".

I thought Continental ContiSports were supposed to be a good all-round sport bias tyre?

I've track day'd my focus rs with conti sc5 (235/35 19) and they coped very well. A bit of block edge "erosion" in the centre band area on the fronts but, overall no drastic wear (and I'm talking about tyres which were pretty worn out). I was thinking of going toyo 888 and conti sc5 but now likely to find an all weather to go with the conti.

PSS's are not available in 205/40/17 size or for that matter any 17" rim fitment.

You could try Pilot sport 3's which are a less focused performance tyre option. The closest alternative to a pilot super sport would be the older pilot sport 2 tread pattern if you can locate stock.
